Job Introduction
Serco are a trusted provider of services to National Space Agencies and the European Space Agency (ESA), we have over 40 years’ experience supporting the space sector and providing services for all stages of our customer’s space missions.
For our activities in ESA/ESTEC, we are currently looking for a Laboratory Engineering Technician.
As Laboratory Technician, you will be working within the ESA Space Power Laboratory (ESPL). This laboratory performs various experiments for internal and external customers. These experiments and inspections are executed on batteries, fuel cells, solar cells and power conversion systems destined for space applications.
The successful candidate will be part of the ESPL team consisting of 6 team members working alongside a team of scientific ESA staff performing qualification programs, investigations, and R&D experiments.
Main Responsibilities
As Laboratory Technician you will concentrate your activities on the following:
- Setting up and performing controlled experiments in specialized facilities.
- Preparation and instrumentation of test samples for experiments.
- Maintaining and modifying laboratory facilities.
- Reporting test results and writing procedures.
- Maintaining the laboratory calibration and maintenance databases.
Successful Candidate

- Bachelor's degree in Aeronautics, Mechatronics, Physics, or similar areas
- At least 4 years of experience in a similar position are required
- Broad and in-depth experience and knowledge of laboratory testing environments.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Analytical skills and result driven.
- Excellent written and oral skills.
- Curious, innovative, and creative.
- Multitasking skills with a hands-on mentality.
Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Knowledge and experience in the inspection and testing of photovoltaic components.
- Knowledge and experience of electrical/electronical testing environments.
- Working in an international scientific environment.
- Calibration activities.
- Vacuum and cryogenic systems.
- NEN3140 Electrical safety inspections.
- Promotes high level of team working and development of team spirit.
- Sound knowledge of all aspects of Health & Safety.
- Strong Technical Skills.
- Strong Communication Skills.
- Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge of another EU member state language is an asset.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
