Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a Ground Segment Systems Engineer to join our service team supporting our customer, EUMETSAT's, system engineering activities. The role is based primarily onsite at EUMETSAT’s site in Darmstadt, with a generous distribution of remote work as part of a hybrid working model.

Your mission as part of the Ground Segment Systems Engineering Service is to provide engineering support to EUMETSAT’s missions’ ground segments under development or in operations, with the latter subject to maintenance and evolution. You would play a key role in supporting the EUMETSAT EPS-SG, MTG, MSG, EPS missions and Multi-Mission-Systems, as well as the planned EPS-Sterna and EPS-Aeolus missions.

In your role, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform requirements engineering for ground systems in operations, and in development
  • Create and contribute to the description of the system architecture and interfaces between external systems, and the mission-specific elements of the ground system
  • Perform technical analysis of system architecture and evolutions of specification or major upgrades of the operational ground systems, for interface coherence and compatibility while checking with ongoing developments
  • Contribute to the IV&V testing approach for major evolutions of the operational ground systems
  • Contribute to the coordination of the integration and verification of new systems into the operational infrastructure
  • Contribute to the definition of the IV&V approach for future ground systems
  • Creation of System Engineering models of Ground Systems using an MBSE approach and/or maintaining existing model baselines
  • Contribute to the operations preparation activities for the ground segment, including maintenance of a complete and consistent set of System Technical Documentation for the System Technical Baseline
  • Contribute to the various OPS and TSS Projects and associated reviews, providing System Engineering contributions during the design phase and contribute actively to the definition of the IV&V activities
  • Cover assessment of Engineering Tasks and providing System Engineering expertise to CRB’s and ARB’s
  • Definition and documentation of new interfaces with the methodology used in Operations, including use of common templates for Interface Control Documents and the use of the same tool for maintaining the interfaces data dictionary.

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent from a relevant discipline
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Systems Engineering and IV&V activities for at least one major element (e.g. PDP, MOC, Archive, etc.) of a ground segment for earth observation missions
  • Knowledge of space and ground system engineering processes, and system and software life-cycles and standards
  • Experience in change control procedures
  • Experience in writing technical requirements
  • Definition, management, and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools (DOORS)
  • Experience in interface management and definition, including familiarity with mechanisms and tools for detailed interface definition and capability to prepare and manage ICDs
  • Experience with formal testing (FAT/OSAT), including preparation of test procedures, TRRs/TRBs
  • Experience in operational environments under strict configuration management rules
  • Experience in maintenance of ground system and associated anomaly management process
  • Experience with Data Processing systems for earth observation missions
  • Experience with Satellite Mission Control Systems for earth observation missions
  • Experience in formal verification control processes (VCBs) and maintenance of VCDs
  • Use of modelling and design languages for System Engineering (e.g. SysML) and tools in support of architectural design activities (e.g. Enterprise Architect)
  • Knowledge of IT/ground segment technologies, relational databases, virtualisation, networking, SW deployment tools
  • Fluent in English

Additionally, the following experiences and skills would be considered beneficial:

  • Experience with Ground Stations and/or EUMETSAT Multi-Mission Elements for archiving, monitoring, data dissemination
  • Knowledge of scripting in Linux environment
  • Experience with ground segment test data, including reconditioning, change control, and related test tools, etc.
