We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic System Engineer to join our Italian Office in Rome. Join a ground-breaking European project at the forefront of satellite technology and climate research.

Main Responsibilities

Objective of the activity:

Support in Area 3 as PDGS System Engineer, cooperating with the Common Services’ Service Managers to manage the technical specifications and evolutions of PDGSs’ Common Services.

Inputs

  • Existing technical documentation (requirements, functional specs, OPSCON, interface docs)
  • Change requests and implementation proposals
  • Applicable standards, guidelines, and reference documents
  • Feedback from customer, operations, and industry stakeholders
  • Project schedules, milestone plans, and previous review materials

Outputs

  • Updated technical documentation and high-level technical specifications
  • Statements of Work (SoWs) and reference packages
  • Technical assessments, compliance and progress reports
  • Presentations, meeting minutes, and stakeholder communications
  • Transfer to Operation Plans and approved deployment documentation

Activities:

  • Review technical documentation and actively participate to support PDGS maintenance and evolution activities and projects (e.g., by supporting SRR, PDR, CDR, QR, AR, ORR milestones).
  • Support elaboration of SoWs with the provisioning of high-level technical specifications and other applicable and reference documents for software evolutions.
  • Contribute to support the maintenance of high-level technical documentation (e.g., end-to-end operational scenarios, functional specifications, operational concepts, etc.).
  • Provide engineering support to the execution of ad-hoc activities derived from the Change Control Board processes (e.g., by providing support to the technical assessment of implementation proposals, by monitoring the execution of the overall delivery process until the final deployment in operations).
  • Support the technical analysis and monitoring of the implementations made by the industry to ensure compliance with the requirements of the request.
  • Participate in technical meetings and communication meetings with the client, either by contributing to presentations or directly presenting.
  • Manage the different stakeholders involved in the activities to which he/she will be assigned (e.g., the customer, industry representatives, other involved services).
  • Prepare the Transfer to Operation Plans (and coordinate the transfer to operation process) for new systems, complex configurations, new services, or existing systems impacted by major changes.

Required location 

Serco applies smart working policy. The successful candidate can be requested to be occasionally on-site at the customer's premises (ESRIN). 

Successful Candidate

Your skills:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical or scientific discipline (e.g., Space System Engineering).
  • Good general knowledge of the satellites’ PDGSs.
  • Strong and demonstrated background in System Engineering (at least 5 years’ experience in the role).
  • Experience with programming and technical applications.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills with capabilities to synthesize.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Methodical and proactive, with initiative and capability to work autonomously.
  • Problem-solving and creativity-oriented attitude.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. 

Highly Desirable Skills: 

  • Knowledge of the ESA Missions’ PDGSs.
  • Experience in ESA internal engineering processes.
  • Knowledge of Earth Observation context.
  • Knowledge of ESA-applied standards (e.g., ECSS) and applications (e.g., ServiceNow/TellUS).
  • Knowledge in service provisioning (e.g., ITIL) and in project management (e.g., PMI-PMP).

Relocation :

Rome's central location in Italy offers excellent transportation links within the city and across the country. The city is well-connected by a network of highways and railways, with Ciampino Airport or Fiumicino, providing convenient access to international destinations.
