Main Responsibilities
As Copernicus Mission Control Systems Operations Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
Routine Operations Service
- Provide Routine Operations services for the operational mission control systems for all EUMETSAT Copernicus missions including:
- Conduct and coordinate routine and special operations,
- Monitor the performance and quality of MCS systems, report and investigate anomalies, participate in the correction of anomalies and propose evolutions,
- Create and maintain schedules,
- Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of documentation to perform routine, non-routine and contingency operations activities, including operational procedures, working practices and user guides, in accordance with EUMETSAT document management and configuration control processes,
- Provide statistics and inputs for periodic OPS reporting as defined in operations documentations,
- Provide training as requested,
- Contribute the medium and long-term operations planning.
- Provide on-call/standby
Operations Evolution Service
- Provide services for the evolution of mission control systems for all EUMETSAT Copernicus missions, including:
- Contribute to the definition of evolutions including requirements specifications,
- Evaluate the technical requirements, and assess their compliance with the relevant ground segment requirements,
- Contribute to the operational validation of upgrades, and to the compilation of the relevant operational validation reports,
- In coordination with the relevant division from the Technical and Scientific Support (TSS) department, define and implement scripts, procedures and tools for the deployment, management and day-to-day operations of mission control systems.
Operations Preparation Service
- provide services for the Operations Preparation of mission control systems, their off-line functions and test tools for the future EUMETSAT Copernicus missions, e.g. CO2M including:
- Contribute to reviews, particularly identifying system deficiencies, raising operational risks and suggest their potential resolution,
- Contribute to workshops with providing mission control systems expertise,
- Contribute to the preparation and tracking of the status for configuration items validation and Operational Scenario Validation (OSV),
- Contribute to the definition of operations concepts, operations preparations and commissioning activities,
- Contribute to the development, integration, testing and validation of operations preparation tools and related concepts and processes,
- Contribute to the integration, verification and validation test campaigns within the relevant ground segments,
- Contribute to the definition of transition plans,
- Contribute to the generation of operational documentation.
- Provide services for the commissioning of mission control systems, for the future EUMETSAT Copernicus missions, e.g. S3-C, S3-D, CO2M, S6-B.
Successful Candidate
Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in:
- University degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or scientific discipline
- Spacecraft Mission Control System Operations
- working with UNIX/Linux
- Scripting or programming languages (e.g. bash, C / C++, IDL, Java, Matlab, perl, Python)
The following experience is an advantage to have:
- SCOS-2000
- Relational Databases and database management systems (e.g. Oracle, MariaDB, PostgreSQL)
- Configuration management systems (e.g. CVS, SVN or GIT)
- ECSS and CCSDS standards applicable to Satellite Monitoring & Control Systems: Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS (Packet Utilisation Standard), etc
- Using satellite simulators
