Main Responsibilities

As Test Automation Engineer you will be responsible for:

• The development, roll-out and adoption of a Test suite for European software for peer-to-peer information exchange between public institutions;
• The configuration and deployment of the JRC conformity test tool within the JRC IT infrastructure;
• The experimentation of innovative automation tests technologies within the JRC test bed.

Our projects are based on innovative technologies and a modern technological stack. The team in constant search of the best technical solution to fulfil the requirements. In our team, we value simple design applying SOLID and clean code principles, process automation and lightweight libraries over heavy frameworks. We follow the UNIX philosophy of minimal, modular and composable software development.

You will work in an agile environment with the CISE Engineering Team, and occasionally with the Member States’ teams/representatives to deploy, configure and maintain the network and software solutions for information exchange in CISE. You will contribute to the team's activities and capabilities by demonstrating technical competence, personal initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, transparency and enthusiasm.

In coordination with the JRC CISE Engineering team, you will be asked to:

• Implement CI/CD solutions to automate software tests in deployment pipeline processes, using tools (such as Jenkins, Cucumber, SoapUI, Katalon, Selenium) and ad-hoc scripts;
• Plan, write, execute and lead tests and automation testing within the cloud infrastructure or in the JRC premises to host the CISE software solutions;
• Perform the Automation test within the installation pipeline of the CISE building blocks in production environments, occasionally in coordination with the technical teams from the Member States;
• Report Test results and give the team feedbacks on each Build using Jira and other tools
• Conduct research on new trending technologies (preferably open source) to improve/evolve the existing software testing solutions;
• Contribute with their expertise, innovative ideas and solutions to improve the performance, scalability and maintenance of the IT systems;
• Assess the feasibility of reusing software components from other European Programmes;
• Draft and contribute to official and technical documents both addressed to an internal audience and occasionally to Member States’ representatives.

Successful Candidate

For this position it expected that you have ideally between 3 and 13 years of experience.

Knowledge and skills

Essentials:

• Demonstrated solid experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Hudson, BambooGit, Bitbucket, GitHub
• Good experience in Test Automation including planning, script development, and maintenance;
• Good experience with tools as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, Protractor, SoapUI;
• Good experience with TDD (jUnit, TestNG, other) and BDD (Cucumber/Gherkin, Geb/Spock, other)
• Good experience with hyper-convergent, containerization, orchestration and virtualization technologies: VMWare, KVM, Kubernetes, Nomad, Docker, OpenShift/OKD;
• Good experience of GNU/Linux and/or UNIX systems;
• Good knowledge of development methodologies, in particular life cycle management, system integration, bug tracking, version control systems (including the software supporting these methodologies, e.g., Jira, git, confluence, etc.);

Advantage:

• Experience in network configuration and maintenance (e.g. VPN setup, firewall setup and configuration, etc.);
• Knowledge of Java application structure and build tools (e.g. Maven, Gradle, etc.);
• Good knowledge of information security concepts, including PKI infrastructure concepts (e.g. signature, encryption, openSSL, certificates, etc.);
• Knowledge of one or more scripting languages.

General skills

• Excellent written and verbal language skills in English (in order to draft technical documents and to interact with English-speaking stakeholders);
• Passion for learning new technologies and tools;
• Customer orientation and agile mind-set;
• Teamwork skills;
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment
