Junior Software Engineer

On behalf of our team in Italy we are looking for Junior Software Engineer, who will work on a full time, permanent contract with a hybrid working style from Frascati, Italy.  By becoming a member of our team, you will have the exciting opportunity to collaborate with the European Space Agency in the field of Earth Observation, while being employed by Shamrock Space.

 

Role Responsibility

As Junior System Engineer you will be responsible for:

Configuration

  • System Management and Configuration Control of complex computing systems.
  • Definition of SW test plans for testing processors and support to the testing, evaluation and acceptance of S/W deliverables.
  • Security hardening as per ESA security guidelines.


Operations

  • Operating and maintaining data processing and archiving systems including all H/W, S/W and network components.
  • Data transformation and ingestion into processing systems for testing and validation purposes or for visualisation.
  • Installation and evaluation of SW on cloud computing infrastructures; processing in cloud environments and preparation of dedicated processed datasets in specific formats (e.g., projections, gridded).
  • Maintenance and evolution of the ESA online systems.


Adaptation

  • Support the transfer and adapt the integration and the workflows of specific EO data handling applications and workflows to CDSE (Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem and/or to application hosting environments listed in the NoR (Network of Resources) portfolio.
  • Migration of ESA online systems to the Application Propagation Environment (APEx) concept.

Successful Candidate

Mandatory:

  • University degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or similar.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a similar industrial or research environment.
  • Experience with installation, configuration & maintenance of Image processing systems and GIS tools (e.g. IDL/ENVI, Matlab, ERDAS, PCI, Arcinfo)
  • Knowledge of C, C++ or Java under Windows, UNIX/LINUX, and MAC OS
  • Knowledge of web-based geo-data I/O, analysis and processing services such as WMS, WPS, WCS and WFS as well as OPeNDAP servers.
  • Knowledge of docker/kubernetes.
  • Experience in software testing and product verification.
  • Extensive knowledge of PYTHON and Jupyter Notebooks, Julia.
  • Experience in software testing and product verification.

The following skills would be highly desirable:

  • Knowledge of EO data products, formats, and analysis tools and data access interfaces, e.g. CDSE
  • Experience in working in an International environment.
  • Experience with collaborative tools, e.g. Github, Jira.
  • ICT Management.
  • Security expertise for web applications and servers.
