Main Responsibilities

The candidate shall provide support for the overall system and ground segment V&V activities.

The candidate will typically be involved in tasks related to test tools / test data, with focus on test data and test tool required for V&V of on-ground data processing chains. Tools can serve for example the purpose of test data generation / manipulation / reformatting / inspection, test data injection into the ground segment and test data collection & analysis.

Typical tasks include:

  • Contribution to the in-house development and validation of test tools and their maintenance.
  • Provide support for the consolidation of the development logic for test tools / test data and compilation of the associated schedule.
  • Provide support for procurements of test tools / test data, including the analysis of received deliverables and attending acceptance tests.
  • Provide support for acceptance of test tools / test data provided by partners (such as ESA, CNES, DLR).
  • Provide support for the simulation of test data sets for V&V using available tools; generation of test data sets using real data from satellite and instrument on-ground tests or in-orbit operation.
  • Provide support for the implementation of an infrastructure to host test tools and test data.
  • Provide support for configuration management of tools / test data sets, using applicable EUMETSAT processes.
  • Provide support for the preparation of V&V tests of processing chains, such as preparation of test specifications and procedures, specifically for aspects related to use of test tools and test data.
  • Contribute to the execution of V&V tests of processing chains, specifically for the analysis of test results, inter alia using developed test analysis tools, with documentation of the results in test reports.

In addition the candidate shall be involved in some more general tasks:

  • Participation in relevant internal and external meetings.
  • Regular review of EPS-SG documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools and test data.
  • In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners.
  • Support for the preparation of documentation for EPS-SG system level reviews.
  • Some activities will involve interactions with other teams, primarily in the LEO division, and also, as relevant for the work, with engineers at partner agencies.

Successful Candidate

Essentials

The candidate shall have the following experience and background:

  • University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of general experience with on-ground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on involvement in V&V activities for on-ground processing chains, including production of test tools and of test data.
  • At least 3 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards.

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key-person must be able to work effectively in this language, knowledge of French being an advantage.

Desirables

The following experience would be an additional asset:

  • Direct involvement in preparation of test plans, specifications, procedures and reports.

The candidate shall have furthermore the following skills:

  • Be able to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision,
  • Have a systematic approach to work,
  • Be able to plan his/her work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks,
  • Have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation,
  • Have good communication skills (verbal and written),
  • Be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
