Main Responsibilities

You will provide consultancy to the activities of ground segment developments in the area of Software and Monitoring and Control (M&C) related to the ground stations. In doing this, you will support:

  • The follow up of the detailed design, development activities, integration and testing during Phase C/D of the future ground segments in the areas of ground stations software and M&C systems.
  • The analysis and the implementation/testing of changes, or re-engineering that may be required on the basis of user requirements or maintainability issues;
  • The testing and validation of new software and databases releases;
  • The maintenance of ground stations automated procedures and related databases;
  • The remote operation and  the maintenance of EUMETSAT Ground Stations in the areas of:
    • Monitoring & Control
    • Software systems
    • Transfer protocol for the spacecraft telemetry, telecommand and mission data.

 

You will provide consultancy to a multi-disciplinary system engineering team and will report directly to the SEP Ground Stations Engineering Team Leader, however when working in a given programme, you should report also within the established programme structure.

 

In the performance of these tasks, you should apply the relevant organisational and programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant ground stations system engineering standards.

 

Successful Candidate

Essentials

You should have a university degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision.

You should have, as a pre-requisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 4 years. This experience shall include in particular:

  • System software engineering in an operational earth observation environment;
  • Monitoring & Control software application maintenance and configuration;
  • Ground Stations Monitoring and Control;
  • Linux/Windows operating system;
  • TCP/IP based communications protocols;
  • C++ and Java programming languages and XML.

 

You should be in possession of sound management and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation.

 

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.

 

Desirables

Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for you to have experience with some of the following:

  • Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TT&C, mission specific and/or satellite communications ground stations;
  • Knowledge of ECSS and CCSDS standards in the area of satellite Telemetry, Telecommanding, ranging & SLE (Space Link Extension)
  • Data Base Applications and related configurations control mechanisms.
