Job Introduction

In Europe, we work closely with our customers to deliver custom-made and specialized services across International Organizations, Space, Immigration, and Defence. We provide tailored services for various public sector bodies including European Institutions, the Belgian and German Defence, the European Space Agency, and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Our expertise spans IT services, Facility Management, Space Research, and Operations.

The IT Solution Architect supports the execution of IT projects and bids by working with key stakeholders (business and IT) to understand the business requirements, identifying any gaps between business requirements and current IT capabilities, defining solutions to bridge the gaps, and making sure that the project scope is maintained, and solutions implemented in line with Serco architectural principles and the IT strategy for the business unit.

He/she is expected to work closely with clients and business representatives to understand their business needs and design solutions to tackle the IT need of each project or bid.

The Solution Architect must also understand the IT needs of the business as well as the overall impact of proposed solutions to the profitability of the business or bid they’re working on.

To ensure that IT Solution Architects maximize value and credibility, they will be a specialist in at least one specific IT area whilst maintaining a broad knowledge of current and emerging IT technologies.

Main Responsibilities

As IT Solution Architect you will be responsible for:

  • Working with the Enterprise Architect, to identify patterns, strategies and best practices that will define the new Enterprise Architecture
  • Working with the IT Project Manager to understand the needs of business and produce designs & solutions for each project
  • Whilst working on bids, liaising with the business development and bid teams to formulate appropriate solutions and cost models
  • Attending solution reviews and, if appropriate, governance boards, to ensure solutions are approved and adhere to Serco architectural standards
  • Presenting solution design and cost models as part of the Serco bid governance framework
  • Liaising with other IT professionals (in primis Enterprise Architects, Technical Leads etc.) to architect and design solutions for business operations and bids
  • Ensuring compliance with solution architectural designs in the implementation of projects and bids
  • Providing architectural guidance and design leadership to the project delivery team to ensure delivery is in line with the design
  • Providing delivery execution support to the delivery team, supporting the change control process throughout the project
  • Explaining technical issues and IT solution strategies to non-technical stakeholders and other IT professionals as required in support of solutions
  • Aligning with IT Project Manager and BU DP to ensure that solution design milestones are accomplished in accordance with the project plan
  • Production of solution and service designs
  • Ensuring solution and service designs are aligned with business needs and support Enterprise Architecture roadmaps and IT strategies
  • Reviewing the proposal of suppliers to ensure that quality inputs are deliverable, aligned to Enterprise Architecture roadmaps and compliant with standard services
  • Describing the design of the solution and service in sufficient detail for work to be planned, discussed, and clearly understood by business users
  • Describing the structure of solutions to a business problem, which may include several 

 

Successful Candidate

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge, and qualifications

  • Architectural Vision and Strategy: the Solution Architect will develop and maintain the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and roadmap to support the business goals and technology landscape.
  • The IT Solution Architect will have a strong background and experience in Architecture definition and Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP among others), with demonstrated experience in On/Prem to Cloud migration; any of the following IT disciplines will be considered as a plus: Microsoft Entra ID, CRM, complex case management, Dynamics, SaaS products, RPA/AI, Data Analytics.
  • Practical experience of understanding business requirements, whilst maintaining a knowledge of current and emerging IT technologies
  • A degree in IT related discipline (or appropriate working experience) is required along with an understanding of modern IT infrastructure, applications, and Cloud-based technologies (SaaS, Azure etc.)
  • You must be able to offer clearly defined solutions to business problems, along with being an analytical thinker and logical in approaching issues
  • You will have effective communication skills that enables you to convey complex technical details to clients in laymen terms
  • You will have up-to-date technologies exposure
  • You will need to identify technical issues and design solutions to fix them, gathering and assimilating information
  • Ability to adapt and prioritise their time – good time management is key
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

 

Additional / special features of the role

  • Must be willing to undergo BPSS security clearance. In some cases, SC may also be required depending on assignment. An industry recognised qualification in an Architectural Framework (e.g. TOGAF) is desirable (not essential).
