We currently have an exciting opportunity for an ERCC Duty Agent (ERCCDA), based in Brussels.

Role Responsibility

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

Nature of the tasks

• Participate in the 24/7 on-duty system of the ERCC.

• Support the ERCC's emergency management functions, namely o maintaining a high level of situational awareness (e.g. making use of early warning and disaster monitoring tools as well as information gathering, analysis and dissemination). o contributing to the ERCC coordination function (e.g. operating with specific communication platforms and databases, organizing and participating in meetings and video/teleconferences, operational and administrative tasks to facilitate the deployment of o capabilities and experts in case of disasters). o information management (e.g. following and complying with specific information archiving structure, contact lists, various web-based applications).

• Draft technical content for knowledge database.

• Document operational support procedures.

• Administration and problem fixing of local environment (e.g . ERCC monitoring and alert systems, ERCC communication equipment, including video-walls, Common Emergency Communication and Information System, monitoring screens...).

• Advise in areas such as capacity management, contingency planning, IT service continuity management, automation of repetitive tasks, security.

• Participation in coordination and project meetings related to civil protection and humanitarian aid

Successful Candidate

Education and Experience

• Minimum 5 years of relevant studies and experience post-secondary school.

Knowledge and skills

• Proven knowledge in end user assistance and/or support of information systems.

• Excellent oral/written communication skills.

• Ability to work in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability.

• Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings.

• Team player with appropriate social and communication skills.

• Excellent knowledge of English (at least level C1 of the Common reference levels published by the Council of Europe). Knowledge of French and other EU languages is an asset.

OTHER PRECISIONS

Optional specific expertise

• Experience or technical studies in a field relevant to the development of IT-based early warning and monitoring tools for natural disasters, including a technical analysis and evaluation on the current events retrieved by the systems, requiring a good understanding of natural disasters events.

• Professional experience of emergency management and emergency response gained through working with, United Nations, Red Cross movement or non-governmental humanitarian organisations, civil protection entities including fire services.
