Job Introduction

We are hiring a Application/Cloud Architect for European Commission in Brussels and various locations around Europe.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, document and implement the configuration and release management process for systems with parallel development and continuous test and integration into the production stream. This has to be done in such a way that the parallel code branches are frequently re-aligned to minimise integration effort.
  • Monitor and focus on the continuous integration and development process
  • Monitor and maintain the process of versioning configuration changes (e.g. Major releases, minor release, hotfixes etc.). The candidate must be able to have a deep technical understanding of this process and of the application frameworks and codebase.
  • Collaborate with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Project managers and Application Architects in order to align the release plan and configuration management with the project plan.
  • Design, implement plan and monitor a code branching model allowing:
  • work in parallel for multiple releases
  • parallel development between team members
  • parallel development between separate teams
  • tracking of features
  • preparation for production releases
  • quickly fixing live production problems.

  • Design, plan, implement integration strategies and patterns in a JEE/HTTP secured ecosystem.
  • Apply best practices of distributed architecture to solve complex integration problems between information systems.
  • Design, implement and document APIs to be exposed in a secured manner on a public facing API Gateway.
  • Design, plan, implement and deploy workflows: business process definition and task definition (service or user tasks) relying on APIs and business events.
  • Work in a container based infrastructure.

Successful Candidate

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Bachelor degree of 3 years.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Excellent knowledge of Git concepts (branching, versioning, merging etc.)
  • Proven experience with the process of versioning configuration changes (code level)
  • Excellent knowledge of pipeline tools such as GitLab, Bamboo, Jenkins
  • Good knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture
  • In depth knowledge of application design
  • In depth knowledge of modelling tools
  • Good knowledge of Enterprise Architecture
  • Good knowledge of Relational DBMS
  • Good knowledge of business process analysis
  • Knowledge of interoperability technology (e.g. web services)
  • Ability to give technical presentations
  • Ability to apply high quality standards and to respect deadlines
  • Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in application architecture and design
  • Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, good communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Justice, Consumers, Migration and Home Affairs EU policy objectives
  • would be a plus
  • Excellent Team Player
  • Knowledge of Justice, Consumers, Migration and Home Affairs related public IT systems
  • Previous experience in legal organisations or departments would be a plus
  • Experience with cloud-based hosting solutions would be a plus

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE

  • Excellent knowledge of dependency management frameworks (MAVEN, GRADLE)
  • Excellent knowledge of integration testing best practices.
  • Good knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and cloud native architectures.
  • Good knowledge of distributed or microservice architectures and complex event processing.
