Job Introduction

Do you have a Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 administration experience and have worked with Apache Tomcat in terms of installation, administration, configuration, etc.?  You could be our new Apache Tomcat / Server OS Administrator.  Come join  talented Serco team at the European Central Bank.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Apache Tomcat / Server OS Administrator, based in Frankfurt, Germany.

 

Main Responsibilities

As Apache Tomcat / Server OS Administrato you will concentrate your activities on the following:

  • Provide 3rd level support in Production for IT services based on Java applications and Oracle databases. Act as a single point of contact with other teams for a set of IT services.
  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve system problems using available tools and referring to external suppliers if required.
  • Identify any need for preventive or remedial maintenance throughout the use of diagnostic tools.
  • Participate in the design and development of Java applications by sharing internal best practices and tailoring to the specific IT infrastructure requirements.
  • Design and implement the team’s automation tools and CI/CD pipelines
  • Prepare, test, and deploy application software packages using automation tools and CI/CD pipelines. Coordinate release activities and software deployments done manually by other operational teams working in highly protected environments in Production.
  • Plan, prepare, and document maintenance activities such as releases, software upgrades and patching.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation. Transfer knowledge to colleagues and ensure adequate documentation is available.

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

  • Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 administration experience. System Admin Skills in Windows – server setup, configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring;
  • Expertise in Apache Tomcat in terms of installation, administration, configuration, DB connections, logging, upgrade, release handling, tuning, troubleshooting, thread- and heap-dump analysis, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience of various Security Features of apache Tomcat like SSL, Proxy Support, Realms & Access Control, Connections, keystore and truststore;
  • Experience on object repository e.g. GIT (preferably), SVN, CVS, etc.; creating branches, merging etc. Experience with Gitlab is a plus.
  • Experience in Windows Systems Integration and migration from Windows to Unix and vice versa;
  • Managing user access and privileges; software deployment, patching, tuning, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge on PowerShell scripting;
  • Experience in performing release management activities including, planning, scheduling, change management activities, technical testing and bug reporting;
  • Software packaging and deployment with knowledge of package building and troubleshooting (Windows Installer). Experience of package distribution systems (e.g. MS SCCM/MECM) is a plus. Experience of using Flexera products for package building is a plus.
  • Configuration of OS Profiles and Authentication, Active Directory Group Policies. Experience with Citrix is a plus.
  • Knowledge of OS commands, tools, scheduled jobs, performance tools.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of Containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes);
  • Experience with deploying and maintaining applications in Amazon Web Services cloud platform;
  • Experience in administration of Linux/Unix systems: setup, configuration, troubleshooting (handling Unix processes, system and log analysis, troubleshooting, thread dump analysis, RCA pertaining to application issues), monitoring, authentication, managing user access and privileges; software packaging, deployment, patching, tuning, etc. Experience with cron jobs and shell scripting: (bash, korn, etc)
  • Experience with Python scripting related to systems and IT infrastructure automation.
  • Knowledge of networking and virtualization technologies
  • Knowledge of Security (PKI, certificates, identity management solutions, reverse proxy), License management and renewal.

Not required specifically, but background knowledge in the areas below may be beneficial for your in day-to-day work:

  • Knowledge of Atlassian products: JIRA, Confluence.
  • knowledge on Maven and front-end scripting knowledge such as JavaScript, JQuery, Ajax etc.
  • Expertise on Web Services (SOAP and RESTFUL) also expertise on various development IDE and frameworks such as eclipse, spring, struts etc.
  • Knowledge of configuring Citrix environment, creating Citrix profiles.

Non-technical knowledge and skills:

  • Customer-oriented, with focus on providing an excellent service
  • Good command of written and spoken English, as well as ability to write technical documentation in clear English
  • Ability to act as a technical coordinator between different teams of support personnel and application developers in order to maintain the application lifecycle. Knowledge of DevOps methodology is a plus.
  • Ability to take responsibility and initiative, to work independently, but with good team player behaviour.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
