We are hiring a Technology Expert for IT Support, IT Training and Communication, Quality Assurance and Testing for our prestigious partner DIGIT TM (DG Informatics) in Brussels. DIGIT-TM is a contract from the European Commission for IT services across Europe.

Role Responsibility

NATURE OF TASKS

 Provision of expert advice and assistance, technology watch, evaluation studies,
architectural considerations, applicable standards, solution patterns and best practices in
the specific area of ICT infrastructure technology in the context of business workflow applications (e.g. database management systems, Java Enterprise technology, enterprise
& web content management, XML, portals, business process management and rule execution engines, interoperability, business activity monitoring and business intelligence technologies, Web 2.0, application life cycle management, test driven development, search technologies, information security).
 Provide system administrator and configuration services on the Commission premises
to all staff that uses the information systems developed by the IT Department in the CIC Directorate, mainly business workflow applications.
 Provide 2nd level support service and information to 3rd line IT teams concerning application issues.
 High quality recording, analysing and tracking of application issues (incidents,
problems, changes) to ensure meaningful feedback throughout the support chain.
 Security administration and monitoring, in adherence to the security rules imposed by
the Commission’s central security service (complemented by local rules where needed);
under supervision of the LISO (Local Information Security Officer).
 Provide security administration, configuration and monitoring of access rights to the business workflow applications.
 Evaluation and implementation of security standards.
 Provision of monitoring of the functioning of business workflow applications and analysis and identification of application defects through detailed inspection of database and application server log files.
 Draft technical content for knowledge database for use of upstream support groups in
relation to the different business processes covered by the applications.
 Coordinate with database management teams and developers in the context of security
and access rights administration and management.
 Participate in defining and documenting operational procedures.
 Participation in coordination and project meetings.
 Depending on the circumstances, the expert may be requested to provide assistance or
support in the resolution of production issues.

Successful Candidate

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
 Deep knowledge in one or more domains of the study required for the function (e.g.
networking and operating systems, security, infrastructure, knowledge of technology
required, requirements analysis, performance analysis, a specific technical domain like
business process modelling, etc.).
 Proven knowledge in system administration and configuration of information systems,
especially in the field of IT systems that support business processes and the related
workflows.
 Very good communication / writing skills.
 Capability of integration in an international/multi-cultural environment, rapid selfstarting capability and experience in team working.
 Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, good command of French and English is a must; any knowledge of another community language will be an asset.
 Able to cope with the fast changing technologies.
 Able to cope with the needs of multi-language deployments.
 Expert knowledge of the Operating systems: WINDOWS or UNIX or Linux
environment in the versions used in the Commission and the office automation tools MS-OFFICE.
 Expert knowledge of Active Directory and CISCO VPN.
 Certification or expertise in ITIL processes in the context of incident, problem and change management.
 Good knowledge of information systems lifecycle.

Specific expertise:

 Good knowledge and understanding of end user support and assistance in the context
of networking and operating systems, security and access rights administration /
management of business workflow applications.
