We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Technology Expert based in Brussels. 

Role Responsibility

Description of tasks:

  • Gather business requirements and provide problem-solving solutions
  • Data analysis, modelling, and integration of different information systems
  • Involvement in relevant parts of testing, analysis, technical documentation
  • Design and development of online analytical data processing (OLAP)
  • Creation and maintenance of a data warehouse components
  • Development of data mining solutions
  • ETL processes design, implementation, improvement and maintenance
  • Data modelling
  • Database performance management (monitoring, analysis and improvement)
  • Design and elaborate of tests linked to data warehouse activities
  • Technical documentation writing
  • Assistance with deployment and configuration of data warehouse solutions
  • Participation in technical working groups, progress meetings and meetings with the relevant actors
  • Capable of working in teams and active participation in project meetings with the relevant actors 

Successful Candidate

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good knowledge of data warehouse design & architecture
  • Good knowledge of EA modelling tools, especially SAP PowerDesigner (ideally certified)
  • In-depth knowledge of relational database systems applied to data warehousing (certified, or in the process of being certified)
  • In depth knowledge of SQL and Oracle (12c) RDBMS (certified, or in the process of being certified)
  • Good knowledge of the Data Vault 2.0 methodology though proven working experience
  • Good knowledge of ETL tools, in particular BO Data Services v4.2
  • Ability to cope with fast-changing requirements and technologies used in application developments
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, certification considered a plus

Due to the particular nature of a large international organisation such as the European Commission, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills:

  • Ability to participate in multilingual meetings (French and English);
  • Ability to understand, speak and write in English (C1), French is considered a plus;
  • Ease of communication;
  • Rapid self-starting capability;
  • Ability to work in a team, integrate and work in an international/multi-cultural environment, on variable-sized projects; 
  • Ability to work with a high degree of rigor and method and, more specifically, to follow standards such as naming conventions and coding standards;
  • Meticulous and quality-oriented in work;
  • Ability to write technical documentation and specifications in English and optionally in French.

As the applications managed and maintained contain personal and confidential data, the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality are requested from all staff members, including external personnel. In particular, absolute compliance shall be observed with applicable standards for handling information of a confidential or otherwise sensitive nature in relation to the execution of the contract.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum level of education corresponding to level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework (which typically corresponds to a master’s level or 5 years of higher education).
  • Proven working experience in data warehouse architecture, ETL, data modelling and required tools.
  • Minimum 9 years of experience in Business Intelligence
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Data Warehouse
