Job Introduction

Serco is a leading Space Services Provider with thousands of skilled resources that has supported over 50 space missions on behalf of more than 10 Space or Government agencies around the globe, including the ESA and NASA.

Serco has significantly expanded its space services in the Czech Republic, contributing to major European space projects. Notably, Serco's involvement in the European Space Agency's (ESA) EarthCARE project, which focuses on studying climate change through advanced satellite technology, exemplifies their growing presence in the region. In collaboration with Exprivia, Serco's Czech and Italian teams are playing a crucial role in mission planning, operations, and monitoring, ensuring the project's success. Additionally, Serco Czech Republic is part of a consortium that provides essential engineering and data access services for ESA, further strengthening its reputation as a reliable partner in the European space sector.

We are currently searching for an experienced and dynamic System Operator to join our international team in Prague. The System Operator is used to monitor and control the data products system in a PDGS operational environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate the Ground segment monitoring facility to assess the overall system behaviour (performance, irregularities etc..)
  • Detect irregularity based on the routine analysis of defined performance indicators (by the analysis of the content of the reports generated and/or by the absence of report)
  • Refine the performance indicators to characterize the PDGS operations’ completeness and performance
  • Identify and report to the customer any problem or incident 
  • Anomaly Handling investigation and problem solving 
  • Propose recommendations for resolution of anomaly related to ground segment 
  • Earth Observation (EO) data products management
  • Systematic generation of EO data products monitoring and control  

Successful Candidate

  • Linux O.S and native shell scripting
  • Run, operate, monitor the system according to performance parameters 
  • Provide service desk and second line support 
  • Perform corrective maintenance (at least for blocking problems)

Any experience in the following would be of great value:

  • Java programming
  • SQL knowledge

Additional skills: 

  • Good communications skills in English
  • Proactive approach to problem identification and resolution
  • OnCall support may be required 
  • Take full responsibility for the successful conclusion of the activities and success-oriented
  • Very good user liaison capability and team-player spirit
  • Sharp and curious mind
  • Availability to travel within Europe to attend meetings
