Main Responsibilities
As Suse Linux / Windows Support Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
- Act as the customer point of contact for all issues and requests;
- Installation of new systems;
- Administration (hardware and software maintenance of installed machines - including OS and COTs);
- Configuration control (maintain HW/SW/License information in configuration database)
- Procurement of HW, SW and licenses;
- Integration of OS and SW on defined hardware baselines;
- Validation support for new HW/SW baselines;
- Documentation (for tasks/processes above).
Successful Candidate
Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:
- Advanced university degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar or ability to perform the tasks commensurate with such a formal academic qualification;
- Proven experience in supporting, administering and maintaining Linux and Windows based systems including problem solving, performance tuning and capacity planning;
- Excellent knowledge and experience with current PC hardware (industrial PC knowledge a plus);
- Excellent knowledge and experience with SUSE / RHEL;
- Excellent knowledge and experience with current (and older) Windows versions;
- Knowledge of SUN Solaris;
- Good Knowledge of common office applications;
- Good working knowledge of Local Area Networks;
- Good working knowledge of IT security;
- Experience with IT procurement;
- Good experience in VMWare virtualization;
- Good analytical skills and a problem-solving orientation;
- Knowledge of IT Service Management processes and best practice (such as ITIL), in particular in the areas of incident, problem management, change and release management;
- Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation and the ability to work in a team are very important;
- Very good command of English with proven drafting ability.
