Job Introduction

We are currently hiring an IT Technician for the European Council (GSC) in Brussels. This role involves providing technical support for hardware, software, and networks, as well as handling incident management in a dynamic and multicultural environment.

Main Responsibilities

1. Technical Support and Incident Management

  • Handle and resolve incidents related to hardware (PCs, printers, scanners, peripherals) and software (Windows, Office365, and GSC-specific configurations).
  • Use Service Desk tools to log, track, and close incidents accurately and efficiently.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while addressing urgent needs.
  • Document incidents and their resolutions clearly and concisely.

2. Hardware and Software Maintenance

  • Install, configure, and update hardware peripherals (printers, screens, scanners) and software (Office365, drivers, security tools).
  • Diagnose and perform minor repairs on faulty equipment.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Windows, TCP/IP environments, and security solutions (VPN, Cisco, firewalls).

3. Collaboration and Customer Satisfaction

  • Communicate effectively with users, either in person or via phone, to provide tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Service Desk, level 2/3 support) and external partners (suppliers, manufacturers) to resolve complex issues.
  • Train users to prevent recurring incidents and improve their IT skills.
  • Contribute to customer satisfaction initiatives through proactive, solution-oriented actions.

4. Compliance and Confidentiality

  • Ensure data security and confidentiality, complying with GDPR and internal policies.
  • Identify incidents beyond your scope and escalate them appropriately.

Successful Candidate

Soft Skills

  • Strong stress management and ability to work in demanding environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
  • A customer-oriented mindset with professional presentation, punctuality, and availability.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and synthesize complex situations clearly.

Technical Skills

Software:

  • Advanced knowledge of Windows systems (installation, debugging, configuration).
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP environments and security tools (VPN, Cisco, firewalls).
  • Expertise in supporting and configuring Office365.

Hardware:

  • Experience in installing and configuring hardware peripherals (printers, screens, scanners).
  • Knowledge of driver updates and basic hardware troubleshooting.
  • Skills in diagnosing and repairing minor hardware faults.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, or a related field.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in IT support or a role requiring strong interpersonal communication.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments is a plus.

Languages

  • Proficiency in English or French at C1 level (CEFR) and working knowledge of the other language at B1 level.

Other Requirements

  • Clean criminal record and eligibility for security clearance up to SECRET EU level.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside regular hours.
