Spacecraft Operations Engineer

On behalf of our client, ESOC, we are looking for a skilled Spacecraft Operations Engineer join our team distributed over the ESOC site, in Germany.

Main Responsibilities

As Spacecraft Operations Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:

  • Be in charge of operating the Spacecraft Power, Thermal and RFS Subsystems as well as one of the Instruments assigned as prime and back-up responsibilities on another subsystem to be defined depending on the specific mission.
  • Execution of operational procedures and special operations requests during all mission phases.
  • Operational procedure generation/update under strict configuration control;
  • Support the execution of Ground Segment and Satellite testing, and take the role of Test Coordinator.
  • Be in charge of maintaining one or more elements of the Ground System infrastructure.
  • During the LEOP and Commissioning phase: daily monitoring of the space and ground segment elements of responsibility to assess health and performances, and identify trends and anomalies.
  • Participation and execution of the tasks related to the defined subsystem during the LEOP, Commissioning and End of Mission campaigns.
  • Maintenance and generation of relevant FOS documentation.
  • Develop and maintain SW tool (MS Excel, MS Access, VBA, Phyton) that may be required for efficient and effective conduct of flight operations.
  • Provision of support to the Mission Planning process, where applicable.
  • Provide On-call support based on the defined rota.
  • Deliver technical inputs to the Team Coordinator in the required area.
  • Provide the support to the 1st line when it is required (i.e. shift cover during the weekend, public holidays).       

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

  • Knowledgeable on Spacecraft Systems, with proven experience in operational environment.
  • Knowledge and Proficiency on any S/C subsystems hardware, previously in charge of any subsystem in other missions will be an asset.
  • Programming skills are not mandatory but considered an asset.
  • Experience within the ESOC environment is a strong asset.
  • Experience in the use of ESOC Mission Control Systems and Simulators.
  • Experience in anomalies investigation and resolution, report generation.
  • Experience in SVT preparation and execution.
  • Proven experience with office automation tools, including MS Excel and MS Access (use of functions, queries, macros, reports, input forms, etc.).
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Min 5 years experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience in LEOP campaign is an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and under time constraints/within tight deadlines.
  • Be pro-active, autonomous person and interested in learning and leading activities.
