Role Responsibility

  • Review business requirements and provide technical assessment;
  • Ensure functional and non-functional requirements such as security and performance are met by the system’s architecture and liaise with the stakeholders where necessary;
  • Co-operate with data architects on the feasibility of logical and physical data models;
  • Design, communicate and document solution architecture, including as-is/to-be system designs, development and deployment views, satisfying functional and non-functional requirements and complying with EMA’s Enterprise Architecture standards;
  • Lead the decision making process for the necessary solution architecture decisions and ensure they are justified and documented;
  • Co-operate with project manager/change manager and define and estimate work;
  • Actively participate in software implementation phase according to defined requirements, including user interface design and application security aspects, in compliance with agreed project/release planning;
  • Ensure the delivery of good quality software product by:
    • Confirming the implementation of unit and integration testing of the system’s key functional requirement by the development team;
    • Leading architecture and code reviews and addressing outcomes of the reviews;
  • Capacity to assist with the evaluation and testing of products delivered by external system suppliers to ensure that they conform to requirements and technical standards;
  • Communication abilities:
    • Able to liaise with different stakeholders (e.g. business users, management and development teams) to understand requirements and communicate key technical issues appropriate for the audience;
    • Liaise with release managers, operations and support teams, providing the necessary documentation support and training to transition the system to production;
  • Leadership capabilities:
    • Demonstrable leadership capabilities are mandatory;
    • Experience in coaching developers in new technologies;
    • Experience in managing interactions between the development team and other stakeholders (system administrators / technical operators, testers, support teams, analysts, management, business, etc.).

The Ideal Candidate

Educational Qualification:

  • With Higher Studies: The ideal candidate should have 8 years of experience directly related to this position.

  • Without Higher Studies: The ideal candidate should have 12 years of experience, 8 years of which should be directly related to this position.

Domain ExpertiseIT Development, including 8 years of professional experience in Java, 8 year in J2EE, 8 years in SQL, 6 years in Visual Basic, 4 years in Oracle databases.

Professional Qualification: such as ISTQB/ISEB, TOGAF, Oracle/Java Architect, IBM Professional Certification, CBIP/ORACLE for Data Warehouse & BI domain or other Solution Architecture Certification are desirable.

Role Specific experience:

Design, integration and implementation experience in the following domains:

  • Java
  • J2EE
  • Spring
  • Hibernate
  • Struts
  • XML
  • UML
  • JavaScript
  • Oracle PL/SQL
  • LDAP
  • Visual Basic
  • COM+

Ability to use the software architecture tools such as Sybase Power Design, Enterprise Architect.

Extensive working experience in delivering solutions following:

  • Object oriented analysis and design methodologies;
  • Service Oriented Architecture principles;
  • Iterative or Agile development methodologies.

Working experience with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence) is desirable.

Role specific skills, competencies & responsibilities:

General knowledge & experience: 

  • A third level qualification in Computer Science or other areas relevant to the role is mandatory.
  • Relevant business experience is desirable in any one or more of the following domains:
    • Medicines information;
    • Pharmacovigilance;
    • Regulation.
  • Experience in multicultural organisations is mandatory;
  • Experience working in or with the public sector is desirable;
  • Knowledge and understanding of general trends in the domain of expertise are very desirable;
  • Knowledge and understanding of general trends in IT as a whole are very desirable;
  • Experience of working in a complex environment, including intra muros and extra muros assignments are desirable – unless specified as mandatory in the request for service.

Furthermore, the following general skills are mandatory:

  • Respect the Service Levels Agreements determined by management and/or processes owners;
  • Maintain any relevant knowledge base, technical documents and operational and user guides as necessary;
  • Proactively highlight risks and issues;
  • Proactively strive for continuous improvement of areas under own responsibility and provide proposals to managers and process owners;
  • Ability to see the bigger picture, to identify interrelations and dependencies;
  •  Ability to analyse complex information, with strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and liaise with process owners as necessary;
  • A highly organised and motivated team player, with strong interpersonal and team working skills, willing to support end-users and colleagues across the stakeholder community;
  • Experience of working with senior management and presenting complex issues using verbal and written methods;
  • Ability to manage own workload by: 
    • Ability to manage one’s own time, even in the face of stressful situations, under pressure and to short deadlines; 
    • Consistently meeting deadlines and delivering high quality work results;
    • Having a good understanding of priorities of own work, those of the team and the organisation; and act where needed to respond proactively to changes in priorities and competing tasks;
    • Driving tasks to closure with a highly developed sense of responsibility.
  • Good communication skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
    • Ability to communicate at all organisational levels;
    • Drafting skills and ability to prepare concise and effective documents, presentations and reports.
  • Open to new ideas and innovative ways of working.

Language requirements:

  • English level C1 is mandatory at Common European Reference Framework (CEFR).
