Service Desk Agent

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy. Serco is currently looking for a Service Desk Agent to join our great team in Karlsruhe, Germany!

Role Responsibility

As Service Desk Agent you will concentrate your activities on the following:

The role requires support of local servers, their applications and peripheries, mainly focussing on supporting standalone PCs connected to scientific equipment. This includes installation and configuration of PCs for scientific needs, as well as support to the servers.

Main activities will be: 
• User guidance and support regarding the use of information systems / ICT tools 
• Troubleshooting and follow-up of incidents related to local IT-infrastructure, installed systems & applications running on these. 
• Evaluation and implementation of security standards. 

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:
• System administration of Windows servers (2012 and newer) 
• Administration of complex IT environments 
• Support for users of scientific information systems. 

The following practical experience is desirable: 
• System administration of Linux servers (RedHat Enterprise Linux, CentOS and others) 
• ITIL service management framework 
• Production of technical documentation and training manuals for management and users.

Please note, the JRC site in Karlsruhe is an institute for nuclear research. Accordingly, individuals working on this site will need to undergo a reliability screening and need to hold a radiation passbook. Serco has a specific license from the German authorities for its employees working in a radioprotection zone.
