Main Responsibilities

The position is for a specialist in EO remote sensing with Cal/Val and development experience.

Main tasks:

  • To provide support to ESA in following and controlling the activities related to the Sentinels Mission Performance Centre (MPC) during Operations and Commissioning phases of Sentinel-2 constellation satellites.  
  • In particular the candidate will Interface with the S2 MPC and PDGS team supporting the following main activities:
    • Support to the Sentinels commissioning phase.
    • Support to Sentinels products calibration and validation.
    • Review of ESA and industry documentation, during the various Project phases.
    • Support to testing, integration and validation activities.
    • Documentation and software deliverables review and configuration control.
    • Contribution to coordination meetings and reviews, both ESA-internal and with external participation.
    • Generation of minutes of project-related meetings.​
    • Generation of technical notes to support the projects as needed.
  • Experience with Copernicus Sentinel-2 data is an asset.
  • The specialist will work in a team of experts.

Successful Candidate

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • The successful applicant will hold an university degree in Engineering with Remote Sensing specialization (PhD is highly desirable), have an in-depth knowledge of Optical satellite remote sensing, image analysis, GIS technology and applications and programming. In particular, demonstrated capabilities in EO data processing and applications (specially with Optical/IR)

Other skills:

  • Good documentation writing skills
  • Experience in big data processing, cloud computing and computer science
  • advantageous
  • Experience of in-situ data collection advantageous
  • Scientific programming (e.g. Matlab, Python, IDL)
  • Ability to manage several tasks in parallel and to prioritise
  • Capability to work in a team
  • Pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution
  • Fluent English (written and spoken)

 

Preference will be given to employees within "Categoria Protetta (Law 68/99)" or registered in “lista di mobilità”
