Senior Commercial Manager

We’re looking for a Senior Commercial Manager, to reinforce the team in our Brussels office!

To provide commercial management support to teams in the bidding environment throughout Serco Europe, providing assurance that bids and new growth opportunities will deliver profitable and sustainable business with an acceptable risk profile. To ensure that commercial leadership and financial modelling best practice is applied to bids and contract management in accordance with commercial policy set out in the SMS.

You will be a key member of the Europe Growth Team.

There is a continuing requirement for experienced commercial finance professionals who can give Serco a competitive edge in bidding and who have the skills to deal with complex matters across the contract lifecycle.

The Growth Team provides commercial resources to support the bidding and commercial lifecycle activities of Serco Europe.  The team provide commercial leadership and financial modelling services to support bids and organic growth.  The role will require close collaboration with other disciplines including legal, bidding, business development and Business Unit finance, as well as liaison with other BUs and geographies from time to time.

Role Responsibility

As Senior Commercial Manager you will be responsible for:

Customers

  • Play a key role in developing commercial propositions which are attractive in financial terms to Serco’s customers
  • Analyse information provided by customers in the form of draft contracts and associated documentation to ensure the correct interpretation is applied in bid pricing, agreement of KPIs, development of payment mechanisms etc.

Operational Excellence

  • Act as the commercial lead for selected complex and large bids
  • Assist bid teams and BD leads in analysing and developing new opportunities and propositions. Support the development and implementation of commercial policy, processes and systems as required
  • Maintain expertise in financial reporting requirements, relevant legislation, public procurement policy etc.
  • Ensure key commercial opportunities are identified and appropriately pursued, exploited and documented
  • Ensure commercial risks are mitigated and managed, targeting successful and sustainable rewards and outcomes with proportionate and acceptable risk profiles

People and culture

  • Assist the European Growth Team through commercial and financial training and support to ensure the wider team has access to the right skills and expertise
  • Educate and train other members of the financial/bid teams as appropriate

Financial

  • Support the financial modelling process in accordance with applicable GSOPs
  • Feed in to comprehensive cost capture and risk review processes
  • Ensure financial information provided to black hats and governance is complete and accurate, objectively setting out all material risks and opportunities etc.

Successful Candidate

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

  • Relevant professional financial qualification (or in exceptional circumstances an alternative professional qualification with demonstrable equivalent financial acumen)
  • Experience in senior role(s) focused on competitive tendering for public sector contracts and enabling successful commercial outcomes
  • Demonstrable track record of successful involvement in bidding and winning profitable and sustainable business in the public sector outsourcing market
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills – the ability to listen and to communicate complex ideas confidently yet sensitively. Able to build lasting relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of the various procurement mechanisms available to Government to take opportunities to market
  • Extensive knowledge of how to use company governance processes to translate potential sales opportunities into successful and profitable operations
  • An energetic self-starter who can work without supervision
  • Commercially-driven and results-orientated
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate key messages simply and effectively to the business to aid decision-making
  • High–level of self and situational awareness – capable of challenging and being challenged
  • Track record of influencing senior leaders constructively and positively
  • An inclusive, approachable and consultative nature.
  • A person of high integrity committed to the highest ethical and professional standards.
