Job Introduction
Serco has made significant contributions at ESA's European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands, supporting a wide range of space missions and projects. Serco has provided essential engineering, technical, and management services, playing a key role in logistics and operational support for missions. Serco's expertise in spacecraft management, ground systems and data processing has earned them recognition, including 'Best in Domain' awards from ESA. One of the domains Serco is looking to grow is ‘Navigation’ and with this in mind we are looking to hire a small team of project control, business control and risk management specialists. For schedule control, the service requires a planning and schedule expertise to support the definition and maintenance of project schedules within the Navigation Directorate, including also trend charts generation and critical path analysis.
We are seeking a Project Scheduler and Risk Management Specialist to work on our Customers Site (ESA-ESTEC) in the Netherlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into one of the most sought-after space agencies in the world.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor project schedules, including critical path analysis and KPI reporting.
- Provide support to project teams in schedule control and periodic monitoring of its industrial consortia against the approved baseline schedule.
- Perform analysis of incoming schedules from industrial consortia by means of an agreed set of schedule KPIs and preparing performance deviation reports.
- Perform complex schedule analysis including metrics on quality, critical path analysis, float summary and assess the schedule performance at the required level.
- Provide expert schedule and risk support, inputs, evaluations, and recommendations to project teams during major procurement activities, (e.g. , CCBs), programmatic reviews (e.g. IPREV) and technical reviews (e.g. PDR, CDR).
- Provide expert input to project teams for the definition and update of project Schedule and Risk Management Plans.
- Set-up and configure schedule and risk tools and in close cooperation with project control and each project core team.
- Support and assist project teams in their schedule or risk management process.
- Determine the criticality of schedule activities on NAV projects, evaluate, and suggest alternatives for schedule improvement, recovery, and acceleration to the technical teams for discussion and/or decision. Run simulations and what-if scenarios in support of management and technical teams’ decision process.
- Set up and maintain trend charts, and templates for reporting progress, in line with agency best practices.
- Set up and maintain schedule performance indicators and quality metrics for project schedules.
- Prepare periodic quarterly and ad-hoc reports documenting schedule performance status and analysis and communicate the content to the project team.
- Support to project team in understanding the status of the planning in their work domain and issue recommendations for improvement.
- Proactively track and verify the consistency between the schedules of the Industrial Consortia and CFI/CUs providers, if available, to identify potential problem areas and to propose relevant mitigation actions.
- Provide expert advice to PMSO Office on the use or introduction of new schedule and risk management IT tools, reporting and dashboards and coordinate associated development and testing activities.
- Support NAV PMSO Office for the QMS audit exercise on Schedule and Risk Management.
- Proactively contribute to the development, maintenance and update of schedule and risk standards, practices, and processes within Agency’s programs.
- Proactively contribute to the Agency’s activities in capturing knowledge and elaborating best practices documentation in schedule and risk control.
Successful Candidate
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Engineering or Business Administration)
- 4 years’ experience is project planning for aerospace projects.
- Professional certifications in the management domain is a must (MS Project etc..)
- Experience with: Microsoft Project Professional; Visio Professional; Office Timeline Microsoft 365 Office Software.
- Experience with schedule narrative including schedule assumptions, critical path as well as substantiation of the schedule risk margin and basis documentation.
- Experience with schedule simulations and planning scenarios.
- Experience with schedule risk analysis, assumptions, and results.
- Knowledge of Project Risk Management Processes and Principles.
- Experience with the schedule peculiarities of spacecraft development is an asset.
- Experience in multinational project environments, ideally with ESA or similar organisations.
- Solid understanding and demonstrated experience in of the space sector, space systems development and operations.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
- Must be a citizen of an ESA/EU member state.
