LAN Logistics and Reference Facility Technician - Internal IT (Secret Level/EU Security Clearance)

For one of our prestigious customer we are looking for: LAN Logistics and Reference Facility Technician - Internal IT
Under the direction of the NCI Network Operation’s Manager the incumbent will perform duties pertaining to the delivery of CIS services to internal NCI Agency customers. The LAN, Logistics and Reference Facility Technician for Internal CIS will be the link between the NCI Network Operations Manager and the Inte rnal CIS team for day-to-day service delivery for NCI Agency personnel and external customers.
The said duties consist of:
Perform cabling and cable management to maintain a clean and functional environment, in coordination with General Services Building & Facilities;
Perform patching and patch management;
Overall Reference Facility Management - track outbound / inbound equipment and materials to maintain positive accountability;
Inspect and evaluate equipment and materials to determine disposition; Initiate transportation requests for inbound / outbound equipment;
Receive rack elevation diagrams from engineering staff and complete installation of racks and equipment within Customer and industry standards; Performs changes to the Reference Facility documentation;
Directs the work undertaken by the site technicians;
Update facility and system documentation and engineering drawings;
Assists the NSII Engineers with coordinating with the facility’s services, standardisation and best practices;
Creates and maintains of Standard Operating Procedures within the Reference Facility;
Ensures NSII Teams can performs and configures test scenarios within the NGCS Reference Facility, pertinent to that area;
Ensure a common understanding of the available toolsets and method of utilization within the centralised and distributed user base;
Investigating and proposing long term solutions to encountered equipment and configuration problems;
Advise Management on reliability and enhancements that are needed.
Install and upgrade existing hardware/software;
The Ideal Candidate
Vocational training at middle technical level in a relevant discipline or equivalent, or a good general secondary education in a communications related subject or an equivalent of work experience in the field of Communications Systems Engineering;
Over 3 years’ experience in Installation and configuration management of digital networks and associated transmission systems to include switching systems in support of data, voice and video transfer;
Intermediate knowledge of Logistics procedures to include inventory management, shipping and receiving;
Experience in Configuration Management, Change Management and Incident Management processes in an ITIL organization;
3 years technician level experience installing information technology related facilities, such as server farms or technical control facilities, including equipment racks, equipment and cabling;
Proven Experience working within a Data Centre / Reference Facility;
Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements for communications equipment racks;
Ability in utilizing power tools such as drills, electric screw drivers, metal cutting / grinding devices;
Strong knowledge of UTP, Fibre Optic, Serial and Coaxial cabling standards and limitations;
Extensive experience utilizing test devices; data, cable& optical testers (CAT cabling, Fiber Optic and Serial Data cabling);
Proficiency building various customized cabling to include, but not limited to,
CAT network cables, Fiber Optic network cables, serial cables, V.35 cables;
Experience installing, including LSA plus cabling systems, various types of patch panels to include but not limited to Cat V / VI, Fiber Optic;
Ability to work independently;
Experience at installing and configuring Routers / Switches / Servers;
Knowledge of network routing and switching technologies;
Good knowledge of recent technological developments in communication management systems and LAN / WAN environment;
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, experience of preparing technical documentation and Standard Operating Procedures;
Intermediate knowledge in troubleshooting TCP/IP related issues in a LAN and WAN environment ;
Practical experience in the implementation, testing and maintenance of modern communications, or information systems in a LAN and WAN environment;
