Serco offers space capability across the full space lifecycle from satellite testing to Launch services, LEOP to spacecraft operations, space surveillance to data management, and supporting downstream application development.

We are thrilled to announce our ambitious European space business expansion, with a special emphasis on our growing Italian operation. In light of this, we are seeking a talented Junior IT Application Deployment Engineer to join our team based in Frascati office.

You will be involved in activities relevant to Copernicus, Destination Earth (DestinE) and Italian PNRR initiatives. The position is focused on build-up support and maintenance of the deployment pipelines for the applications developed in the scope of the cited projects.

 

Main Responsibilities

As Junior IT Application Deployment Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the building and setting up of the new deployment pipelines.
  • Supporting the automation and improvement for development and release processes.
  • Support the compliance to cybersecurity guidelines.
  • Working with multi-environment Teams (Development, Engineering, Infrastructure, Operations) to ensure that the applications deployment follows established processes.
  • Identifying technical problems and supporting in software updates and ‘fixes’
  • Producing relevant documentation of the defined procedures and maintain it up to date.

Successful Candidate

Your skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Information Technology (IT), Engineering, Technical Sciences is required.
  • 2 to 3 years of working experience.
  • Working experience in containers orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Working experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix Operating System environment, and scripting.
  • Knowledge of code versioning and CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, Maven, etc..)
  • Knowledge of Cloud infrastructure, computing, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of Programming languages (e.g. Python, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Capability of writing technical documentation (e.g., Procedures, Technical Notes, Interface Control Document, System D.esign Document).
  • Pro-active problem solving attitude
  • English Level B2 (Upper-Intermediate), written and spoken.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of relational and NoSQL Databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Solr).
  • Experience of System Engineering processes (e.g., ECSS standard).
  • Knowledge of ticketing management (e.g. JIRA).
  • Knowledge of Earth Observation satellite data product formats.
  • Knowledge of Copernicus and Destination Earth (DestinE) programs.
  • Critical thinking and self-organization skills.
