Job Introduction

In Europe, we work closely with our customers to deliver custom-made and specialized services across International Organizations, Space, Immigration, and Defence. We provide tailored services for various public sector bodies including European Institutions, the Belgian and German Defence, the European Space Agency, and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Our expertise spans IT services, Facility Management, Space Research, and Operations.

We’re looking for a Junior Commercial Analyst, to reinforce the team in our Brussels office!

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform financial modelling ensuring complete and accurate financial information, including risk and opportunity/sensitivity analysis, presented in meaningful ways with visualisation aids where relevant.
  • Perform commercial analysis to inform the business of the potential outcomes and impact of various bid, cost and/or pricing strategies to facilitate effective business decision-making.
  • Perform financial and commercial analysis for specific deal requirements (e.g. Monte Carlo analysis of performance management regimes; win/loss analysis; benchmark reviews etc.)
  • Analyse customer requirements (draft contracts, technical specs etc), proposing clarification questions where necessary and identifying any possible gaps or misalignments within the costed solution as captured by the financial model.
  • Accurately complete (and reconcile to Serco’s internal financial model) customer financial returns, assisting and responding as required to subsequent clarification questions.
  • Help to understand and reflect customer viewpoint in terms of financial business case, affordability and value for money challenges.
  • Maintain expertise in financial reporting requirements, relevant legislation and public procurement policy. Consider accounting treatments under IFRS, liaising with Group Finance as appropriate
  • Assist in the delivery of cost-effective model audits and peer reviews that will drive compliance and integrity of financial modelling across the Growth process.
  • Assist in data manipulation and modelling capability beyond the modelling of bid financial data, to support emerging commercial propositions and wider projects/BU requirements

Successful Candidate

  • Relevant professional financial qualification (or in exceptional circumstances, an alternative qualification with demonstrable equivalent financial acumen). Working knowledge and understanding of financial reporting.
  • Excellent academic record and strong financial modelling and Microsoft Excel capabilities
  • Knowledge/understanding of people-related cost modelling (salaries, leave, pension, indexation social security etc.) and TUPE/European equivalents (Betriebsübergang etc.)
  • Knowledge of successfully operating company governance processes applied to complex sales opportunities.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail with steadiness under pressure
  • An energetic self-starter who can demonstrate they can work without supervision, once trained while managing a demanding and fluctuating workload.
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate key messages simply and effectively to stakeholders.
  • An inclusive, approachable and consultative nature. Effective working in a team environment.
  • A person of high integrity, committed to the highest ethical and professional standards 
  • Flexibility to travel as required
  • Fluency in French, Italian or German is desirable.
  • Role supports a first-time move from practice, providing opportunity to further develop commercial acumen in diverse ways
