Job Introduction
Serco has made significant contributions at their own COP2 Service Facility located next to EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, supporting a wide range of satellite operations and projects. As the owner and operator, Serco provides essential engineering, technical, and management services, playing a key role in logistics and operational support for satellite missions. On behalf of our client, ESOC, we are looking for a Junior Application Support Engineer to join our team in the FOS Virtualisation service at our Serco Spacecraft Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany.
Main Responsibilities
- Set up, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL clusters to ensure optimal performance and reliability
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot containerized applications within Kubernetes environments
- Monitor system performance continuously and produce reports to support operational improvements
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on technical operations.
- Optionally support database infrastructure to ensure data accessibility and integrity
- Contribute to software development activities, particularly in Java and scripting environments
- Provide support for Linux-based systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting
Successful Candidate
Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL and Kubernetes in operational environments
- Strong background in infrastructure or platform engineering, with a focus on system reliability and observability
- Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure, security, and networking
- Knowledge of storage in Cloud (vblock, S3, Object Storage)
- Familiarity with Linux system administration and troubleshooting
- Experience in monitoring and performance tuning of distributed systems
- Working knowledge of scripting or development in scripting languages such as Java, Python, or similar languages
- Knowledge of Ansible and Terraform
- Ability to support database environments and ensure data consistency (optional but beneficial)
- Academic qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field are advantageous but not mandatory
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to dive into troubleshooting
- Team player mindset, with an efficient thinking focus in a procedure-driven working environment
- Ability to handle stressful situations and work autonomously
- Fluency in English (Written and spoken)
