We currently have an exciting opportunity for an IT Support Cloud Application, based in ESTEC, Noordwijk (Netherlands).

 

Role Responsibility

For this job opportunity the following tasks shall be carried out:

  • Provide technical adoption support to the new users on the esacloud service portfolio, guiding them to find the best solution based on their requirements, and identifying potential evolutions of the existing service to satisfy new requirements;
  • Provide support to customers to Deploy/Create vApps VMs, K8s clusters and namespaces, either using go.esa.int, vCloud Director interface or kubectl commandline based on agreed customer needs or corporate templates;
  • Provide support to customers or their providers to install / debug applications within dedicated K8s containers or VM’s;
  • Support to adoption of platforms for managing containerised workloads and services
  • Use infrastructure as code to automate the full provisioning of applications stacks;
  • Help esacloud customers to get their services back on-line by troubleshooting their vApps, VMs, K8S clusters, namespaces after incidents which resulted in a cloud platform unavailability;  
  • Support the integration of customer applications and services running on esacloud into ESA IT’s network security policy;
  • Definition of technical and service requirements for shared IT infrastructure projects in support of common or programme-dedicated services;
  • Lead engineering for infrastructure projects implementation and release into operational service;
  • Provision of architecture and expert advice for the definition of new services or improvement of existing services in the area of cloud and platform services;
  • Consolidation and rationalisation of the workplace back-end infrastructure by leveraging ESA common cloud computing infrastructure;
  • Gradual expansion of the go.esa.int platform to cover additional functionalities such as BaaS (NetBackup), Object Storage (Isilon Storage), Disaster Recovery (Zerto) and vROPS monitoring in an agile way;
  • Define and implement PoC’s based on open source tools for new or improved infrastructure services, based on customer demands, or driven by automation goals.
  • Expansion of Platform services as underlying infrastructure evolves;
  • Support to the specification, installation and service integration into esacloud  hyperconverged infrastructures such as a Dell/VxRail in ESTEC;
  • Operational support during deployment;
  • Create Custom scripts to tune infrastructure performance and add services to go.esa.int provisioning platform;
  • Support the creation of hybrid could solutions integrating esacloud components with public cloud (MS Azure, AWS).

Successful Candidate

For the provision of the required activities, ESA expects the right candidate to demonstrate competencies and expertise in the technical domains indicated below:

  • Public and private cloud solutions (vCloud Director, AWS, AZURE, …);
  • State of the art infrastructure virtualisation and cloud computing technologies and solutions (VMware VCloud Suite, Openstack);
  • Enterprise storage and back-up technologies and services;
  • Container-orchestration platforms and services (e.g. Kubernetes);
  • Datacentre networking;
  • Experience with cloud brokering;
  • Experience on Automation and DevOps tools, e.g. Ansible;
  • Software development skills in view of infrastructure automation (e.g. python, golang, Terraform and shell scripting);
  • Demonstrated use of Web development technologies, both back-end and front end.
  • Management of orchestrators and container technologies e.g Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes, openshift and kubectl commandline;
  • Masters level or equivalent qualification in information technology/engineering
