IT Director - Europe.

Due to the continued growth of our European business we are looking for an IT Director, to be located our  Brussels Head Office !

You will have a major role in the IT activities across the assigned Business Unit. You will work and be supported by the Business Unit Management Team and IT Senior Leadership team.

Role Responsibility

Strategise:

  • Accountable for the development and ongoing evolution of the Business Units IT strategy through a deep understanding of the requirements within the Business Unit.
  • Proactively engage with members of the Business Unit leadership team to identify and analyse the key business drivers and develop a strategic roadmap of projects/programmes to deliver this.
  • Within the Business Units, support long term business planning for IT Services, helping the Divisional CIO to develop a high-level roadmap of IT and change programmes across the Division.

Architect:

  • Understand emerging digital technologies relevant to the activities within the Business Unit.  Contribute to the maintenance of the Enterprise Architecture and related technology strategies, ensuring they remain aligned to future business priorities of the Business Unit.
  • Use specific sector knowledge to proactively recommend areas for innovation, ensuring Serco is recognised as a leader within the services sector for transforming business processes.
  • Ensure that common business platforms are developed in such a way as to meet existing customer needs now and into the future.  Facilitate the Business Unit in leveraging value for money through any re-use of the existing IT services, capabilities and products to deliver value for money IT to our customers
  • Ensure projects and bids fully leverage the service catalogues and common business platforms.​

Lead:

  • Be a key member of the Divisional CIO team and the Business Unit leadership team. Working closely with colleagues across Serco to add value to all areas of technology, business and commercial discussions.
  • Be a member of the broader IT senior management team, ensuring we leverage the full scale and capabilities of the IT function against the needs of the Serco UK&E business

Govern:

  • Work with MyTech to ensure appropriate governance over all IT services provided to the Business Units, overseeing demand, pricing, service delivery and performance
  • Take overall accountability for ensuring solutions and the data within them are Cyber secure, working closely with Information Security and Data Protection leads
  • Act as Senior Responsible Office (SRO) for all IT projects and programmes sponsored by the Business Unit and to govern all IT investments
  • Responsible for the delivery of IT components of existing customer engagements across the Business Units and acting as a primary liaison point in the transition of new services into existing Business Units
  • Through direct engagement on an ongoing basis, ensure delivery of “fit for purpose” services to the Business Unit, to service levels and ensuring a positive end user customer experience
  • Ensure IT is correct budgeted within the Business Unit and that these budgets and the demand for other IT services are correctly forecasted. Also ensure that all IT spend is in line with the forecasts and plans.
  • Support the Divisional CIO/Director IT and obligations such as the UK & Europe BLRT process in ensuring all IT solutions proposed in bids are fit for purpose, costed correctly, are deliverable in the timeframes agreed and risks are fully understood.

Communicate:

  • Improve the perception of our IT capability by creating strong links between the business teams and IT.  Deliver a step change in business engagement within the Business Unit
  • Deliver a step change in business engagement within the Business Unit.
  • Build strong relationships and trust with business leaders by demonstrating a deep understanding of their business issues and requirements and ensuring transparent and open engagement between the Business Units and the IT function

Successful Candidate

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

Education:

Degree or equivalent preferable.

Professional experience:

Demonstrable experience in IT leadership. Direct experience across a range of IT functional disciplines including:

  • IT strategic planning
  • Solutions Architecture
  • Cyber & data security and associated compliance
  • Programme management
  • IT Service Management
  • Innovation using digital technologies

IT Operations and Service Delivery.

A senior IT professional, with proven experience of working at a senior level within a FTSE 100 (or equivalent) business.  Possessing commercial acuity, able to easily identify with the business issues and proactively add value to business discussions.  Business and service-driven rather than a pure technologist.

Able to bring significant added value in terms of thought leadership, breadth of knowledge and experience of IT within the services sector and deliver thought leadership and innovation for IT technologies.

Direct experience of working with Technology Shared Service using a mix of delivery channels including delivery partners and operating with offshore resources.

Highly influential, with gravitas and credibility at a senior level.  Strong stakeholder management capabilities and able to build trusting relationships with business leaders and peers within the IT function.

Organisationally astute and an agent of cultural change, you will be able to operate effectively within a complex corporate environment undergoing significant change, demonstrating integrity and embodying the Serco Values. 

Additional / special features of the role

Essential

Mainland Europe-based resident (currently or willing to relocate to achieve residency)

Able to travel as required across mainland Europe and occasionally to the UK – the primary EU Serco locations currently being Brussels and Frascati

Fluent English language 

The role will require you to obtain and retain relevant Security clearance

Desirable

EU national

Fluent Italian and/or French language skills
