Ground Station System Engineer

Role Responsibility

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Ground Station System Engineer.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

As Ground Station System Engineer you will support the activities of ground segment developments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications. In doing this, you should support:

  • Engineering activities of Phase B of future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and  Telecommunications (mainly for supporting EPS-SG and Jason-CS activities);
  • The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase C/D of the future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications;
  • The maintenance and evolution in phase E to the other programmes within EUMETSAT (MSG, EPS, Jason ...) in the areas of Telecommunications, RF and Ground Stations.

You will be a member of the System  Engineering  and  Projects  Division, a multi-disciplinary system engineering team. Within  SEP,  you will be part of the  Ground Station Team (GSt), composed of approximately 10 people, and responsible for all engineering activities of the ground stations allocated to the various programs. 

 

Successful Candidate

Essentials

As successful candidate you should bring a university degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks.

You should have, as a pre-requisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular:

  • Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TT&C;
  • Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for mission specific and / or satellite communications ground stations;
  • TT&C baseband equipment and SLE compliant implementations;
  • Technical background in the specification and V&V of ground stations and large antennas and tracking systems for LEO and GEO satellites (ACU  and  receivers inclusive);
  • Knowledge of modulation / demodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TT&C and payload data transmission (e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards).

You should be in possession of sound organisational and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation.

The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.

Desirables

In addition, the knowledge and experience of the following processes / areas is considered as an asset:

  • Competence and experience in the engineering processes for managing requirements from the definition phase through the traceability, verification, validation and maintenance stages using formal methods and tools (e.g. DOORs);
  • Design and requirements engineering of large and complex Earth Observation related ground stations;
  • Usage of High Data Rate Demodulators;
  • System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in S, X and Ka Band.
  • Standard RF and microwave tools and S/W package for generation of signal processing related simulations and / or semi-automated measurement procedures.
