We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager, based in Darmstadt, Germany.

The position is offered as a fixed-term contract until the end of March 2020.

Role Responsibility

The Key Purpose of the role is the following:

Business Partnership

  • Partner with the European Finance Director, the German General Manager, the German Contract Managers in order to lead all financial planning and analysis activities including those related to bids in Germany.
  • Contribute to the definition, execution and follow up of the short- and long-term business plans for Germany (Budgets, Reforecasts, 5 Year Plans and monthly progress reviews - BPRs)
  • Leadership of all reporting requirements for the countries and its associated contracts.
  • Lead on implementing change, be prepared to challenge and positively overcome resistance, and adapt the approach where required.

Compliance, Internal Control & Risk Management

  • Be the standard setter for proper accounting and reporting by developing and growing a culture of good governance and strong internal control. Understanding of the reporting process and impacts of contract changes on the P&L, balance sheet and free cash flow.
  • Develop a culture of risk management as it pertains to the country and in liaison with the business unit.Identify, highlight, manage and (when necessary) escalate risk issues to ensure mitigation and resolution.
  • Compliance and governance in line with Serco Management System (SMS). Support compliance and governance into the day to day activities of the business unit. Accountable for key inputs into monthly/quarterly/annual financial closing, reporting and compliance activity. Working closely with the German accounting department to ensure a smooth financial close.

Relationships

  • Establish and build strong positive relationship with all stakeholders within the country.
  • Work as part of the European Finance team to ensure compliance and best practice in line with Group Finance strategy.
  • Proactively seek and build relationships with the Contract Managers and Finance colleagues across the Serco network.
  • Build strong collaborative and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate should be concentrated on the following tasks and activities:

  •       Run effectively the monthly, quarterly and annual contractual and financial reporting operations (P&L, balance sheet and FCF reporting)
  •            Support the monthly closing processes at country level and ensure timely and accurate reporting of financials.
  •       Monthly reporting on the financial performance of the contracts across Germany.
  •            Support the General and Contract Managers with financial improvement plans and growth targets.
  •            Educate and support the Contract Managers on their financial performance.
  •            Ensure appropriate financial accounting policies and controls are in place and take responsibility for ensuring successful external audit outcomes (supporting the accounting team during external audit).
  •           Support the review of financial processes and controls in order to improve compliance and efficiency.
  •            Review and interpret monthly country performance, including risk and opportunity and Identify corrective actions as needed.
  •            Develop actionable business plans, budgets and forecasts.
  •           Review month end results and provide insightful commentary.
  •           Support the bidding process in providing financial insights and taking accountability for the bid financial evaluation and the risk assessment. Ensure the existence of a risk mitigation plan.
  •           Implement new or improvement of existing financial reporting and relevant systems.

Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate should bring the following skills and experience:

Essential qualifications:

  • Fully qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or another relevant discipline.
  • At least 5 years experience in a similar function for an international company preferably in the service sector.
  • Strong accounting and FP&A Background
  • Fluent in English
  • High academic achievement throughout education.

Essential technical and professional skills and knowledge:

  • Demonstrate high cognitive ability through high academic achievement.
  • Excellent and confident communicator with a proven track record in building positive relationships.
  • Excellent commercial acumen.
  • Drives change and identifies ways to improve the business. Continually seeks improved and more efficient methods of working.
  • A high degree of integrity, personal self-discipline and a strong work ethics with a flexible approach to the job, being prepared to challenge the norms and capable of using own initiative.
  • Delivery focussed – ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritiesssential technical and profession
