Role Responsibility

Within the ESA Data Quality and Algorithm Management Office, the post-holder will join the "Satellite Calibration/Validation and Urban Environment Monitoring Super-Site: Boundary-layer Air Quality-analysis Using Network of INstruments (BAQUNIN)" contract and will work within the Scientific instrumentation Laboratory, directly responding to the Service Coordinator, with the objective of supporting the maintenance of the scientific instrumentation onsite (at Sapienza University) and in satellite sites, and administering, operating and maintaining the relative IT infrastructure. 


We are looking for a bright person, with electronic laboratory and IT infrastructure administration practical experience, working in close liaison with scientists of different seniority levels.

Successful Candidate

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
You will operate in the following different domains of activities:

  • Electric, Electronic and Optical laboratory 
  • IT infrastructure 

You will perform the following main activities, under the direction and guidelines of the Service Coordinator:


Electronic and Optical laboratory 

  • Perform routine maintenance of measurement instrumentation
  • Support the integration of new instrumentation, and the design and deployment of the related infrastructure prerequisites (cabling, cabinets adaptation, etc.)
  • Support the instrumentation set-up in case of measurement campaigns, on site and in other locations
  • Keep a detailed inventory of spare parts and locations, and initiate requests for procurement of missing items
  • Keep the inventory of the Instrumentation not functioning (“Lazzaretto”)
  • Make an assessment for the recoverability of Lazaretto’s instrumentation and then proceed with the recovery of the ones agreed to be recovered
  • Prepare or update the operations guide for the instrumentation recovered or modified
  • Support the definition of instrumentation routine testing (to be implemented by the team in the monitoring system)
  • Manage the process of instrument shipment (like in the cases of calibration or refurbishment), from packaging to preparation of required forms, to inspection of returning material

IT Infrastructure

  • Perform routine system administration of IT infrastructure located in La Sapienza. This includes, as no exhaustive examples: resolution of issues, installation of software, support to Team’s requests, Deployment, or replacement of infrastructure
  • Ensure security patching as required
  • Keep a detailed inventory of IT asset and locations, and perform capacity planning, initiating requests for procurement of required items
  • Design and set-up an appropriate IT system resources’ monitoring
  • Prepare or update the operations guide (Including architecture description) for the IT infrastructure managed

General

  • Contribute to the writing of scientific papers and presentations in international conferences for the part of competence
  • Support the preparation of periodical (quarterly as of today) Service reports
