We are hiring a Data Warehouse and Reporting Developer for the European Commission in Brussels and various locations around Europe.

Main Responsibilities

Typical tasks of a Data Warehouse and Reporting Developer are related to:

  • Operational aspects of the data warehouse.
  • Development and maintenance on Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDW).
  • Development and maintenance of the software - web or standalone - applications and the catalogue ofreports related to the data warehouse.

Operational production:

  • Dataset updates.
  • Data extractions.
  • Report generation.

Maintenance:

  • Reports catalogue maintenance.
  • ETLT process corrections and improvements.2
  • Assistance with deployment and configuration of the system.
  • DB performance analysis.

Design/Development of:

  • ETLT processes.
  • Reporting applications.
  • Physical DB.
  • Test programs.

Other aspects:

  • Writing technical documentation.
  • Participation in meetings with other project teams.
  • Interaction with the business analysts, customer, users, project leaders and the developers.

 

 

Successful Candidate

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Bachelor's or Master's Degree 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS 

Essential:


Practical experience in a Data warehouse production environment for periodic tasks. Ability to ensure business continuity of Data warehouse.


In depth knowledge of:

  • SQL and RDBMS ORACLE and tools (sqlloader, sqlplus, etc.) (Minimum 3 years).
  • Linux/Unix OS, scripting and tools (awk, sed, etc.) (Minimum 3 years).
  • Java, Perl, Python (Minimum 3 years).
  • Source control tools such as Git.
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment with tools like Jenkins.
  • Data warehouse concepts and ETLT tools.

Good knowledge of:

  • Data processing, analytical analysis, reporting tool (especially BIRT).
  • HTML/XHTML, XML, XSLT, CSS, JavaScript.
  • The design and development of web and multi-tier internet applications (JAVA J2EE).

Considered as asset:

  • PowerBI experience.
  • Airflow experience.
  • Software development methodologies, especially the methodologies used within the European Commission: PM² and RUP.
  • Modelling tools (e.g. UML).
  • Familiar with trade statistical data (e.g. from WTO, IMF or World Bank) and concepts.

Skills:

  • Autonomous.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication.
  • Attention to details.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
