We are hiring a Data Scientist (DS) - 6300 for our prestigious partner DIGIT TM (DG Informatics) in Brussels. DIGIT-TM is a contract from the European Commission for IT services across Europe.

Main Responsibilities

As Data Scientist (DS) - 6300 you will be responsible for:

  • Definition of solutions proposed for servicing policy units’ business needs;
  • Preparation of statistical analysis of data for use by policy officers and other stakeholders;
  • Management and processing of data;
  • Development and maintenance of interactive dashboards in Power BI;
  • Coordination and review of policy units’ business needs.
  • Reporting of key indicators for different policy fields on the basis of data sets available;
  • Assistance with data management aspects of IT projects developed in DG GROW;
  • Creating, designing and developing data models;
  • Carry out ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tasks;
  • Analyse large datasets and propose approaches for optimisation of reporting;
  • Assessment and quality control of data;
  • Interaction with the business analysts, customer, users, project leaders and the developers

Successful Candidate

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor level or 
  • 3 years of higher education

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Please specify the knowledge and skills necessary for the performance of the above list tasks:

  • Very good knowledge of reporting and statistics
  • Ability to provide ad hoc reports efficiently and fast
  • Ability to give business and technical presentations
  • Ability to apply high quality standards
  • Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in reporting (currently focused on Power BI)
  • Very good communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Analysis and problem solving skills
  • Capability to write clear and structured technical documents
  • Ability to participate in technical meetings and good communication skills

Due to the particular nature of a large international organisation such as the European Commission, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills:

  • Ability to participate in multilingual meetings;
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment, on multiple large projects;
  • Excellent Team Player
  • Ability to understand, speak and write English C1 will be an advantage;
  • High degree of discretion and integrity is required as the applications managed and maintained in GROW, G.4, contain personal and confidential data

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE

Following specific expertise is mandatory for the performance of tasks:

  • Excellent knowledge of Data Analytics techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing.
  • Experience with languages like R, Python, PERL, ….
  • Proficient in continuous code delivery and unit testing.
  • Good knowledge of business intelligence tools (Tableau, SAS, SAP, GoodData…).
  • Expertise in the ETL processes and tools (i.e. Talend Open Studio…).
  • Good knowledge of SQL tooling (NoSQL DB, MongoDB, Hadoop, SQL).
  • Knowledge of architectural design and implementation of scalable modern data stores.
  • Knowledge in one of the following areas: predictive (forecasting, recommendation), prescriptive (simulation), sentiment analysis, topic detection, social media crawling and processing, plagiarism detection, trends/anomalies detection in datasets, recommendation systems.
