Job Introduction

Main Responsibilities
As Data Centre Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
- Data center management and operations:
- Routine infrastructure operations such as installing, maintaining, monitoring, patching and updating servers, storage, and network resources. Using the processes, tools and technologies in place they will ensure physical and logical security in the data centre premises. Set-up, management, and execution of procedures to ensure effective utilization of available rack space, power and network resources. Routine check-ups of cooling systems, electrical aspects (power failover tests, wiring), fire suppression system verification, visual inspections, labelling, etc.
- Data center management processes, procedure, and standard definition:
- Consolidate and standardize the data centre infrastructure and the service operations, thus creating applicable processes and procedures, finetuning them and continuously updating them to reflect the customer requirements for the data center but also filling in any missing gaps.
- Data collection and documentation via open DCIM tool:
- Creation and maintenance of an inventory of all racked-mounted or freestanding devices in OpenDCIM, including device technical requirements and information, physical location, relevant attachments, etc.
- Ensure all installations are done in line with applicable standards & procedure..
- Review, approve and accept installations with reference to applicable standards (including applicable power safety regulations).
- coordinate data centre changes and incidents with Data Centre end users, stakeholders, or 3rd party industrial teams.
- Provide hands-on problem-solving support on request (e.g. server reboots, visual inspections).

- Perform Data Centre risk analysis and manage escalations.
- Support Data Centre audits (internal & external).
- Distribute and communicate to all relevant team’s information to optimize efficiency and minimize risks in data centre activities.
- Ensure that everything in the data centre is in line with approved procedures and raise corrective actions when needed.
- Monitor the progress of Data Centre related actions and ensure timely closure.
- Schedule and coordinate data centre activities to improve overall efficiency and reduce risks.
- Make post implementation reviews and lessons learnt analysis.
- Coordinate works/emergency interventions (new installations, changes, incident resolutions with 3rd parties) in compliance with the applicable site-specific risk management & access procedures.
- Review all change request submitted and report to the local Data Centre governance boards for major changes.
- Plan and schedule all Data Centre related maintenance activities in close cooperation with any local team.
- Coordinate and trigger disposal of installed device no longer in use to recover rack space and safe utility costs for power & cooling.
- Ensure that the DC infrastructure configuration is always accurate and up to date in the DCIM tool, following any change or incident resolution.
- Interface, report, and work hand in hand with the local Data Centre governance board.
- Schedule and coordinate data centre activities to improve overall efficiency and reduce risks.
- Identification, documentation, and communication of applicable DC standards (local, and ESA wide) definition of DC management processes and procedures .
- Executing a Continuous Service Improvement life cycle.
Successful Candidate
Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in IT Systems or (Network) Engineering.
- 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in the management, operation and maintenance of critical data center IT systems and understanding the full range of M&E equipment in a modern critical data center environment.
- ITIL Service Lifecycle Foundation, CNET Data Centre Certification would be an asset.
- Comfortable with working in a diverse and multinational team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are needed, together with a high degree organizational and communication abilities.
- Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge of another EU member state language is an asset.
