For the EU Commission in Brussels we are looking for a Configuration/Deployment Manager with​ at least 9 years of relevant work experience. 

Role Responsibility

Nature of tasks

One of the tasks of the DevOps Engineer is to develop and promote new methodologies (e.g. GitFlow, Continous Deployment, Continous Testing, …) to help developers work more efficiently and to improve the overall quality of software deliverables. He/She will be the owner of the Continuous Integration platform, configuring jobs based on the input received from the developers. By developing automated scripts, he/she will help the developers to execute complex tasks in a controlled way (e.g. Deployments, Servers restart, Fetching logs, …).

Designing solutions, evaluating new products, proof of concepts setup, knowledge transfer to operational teams are part of his/her duties.

He/She will assist developers into setting up hosting infrastructure for the business projects by having a clear understanding of the DG GROW Service Provider (DIGIT) service catalogue. He/she will be the single point of contact between DG GROW and its Service Provider for all Information Systems hosting related matters. He/She will attend informational meetings from the Service Provider to keep DG GROW updated on services offering.

 In the context of the Local DataCentre Consolidation project, the DevOps enginer will steer the project and coordinate the various actions between the local and the corporate services. He/She will have to preserve the availability and quality of the services delivered to DG GROW users.

Successful Candidate

Knowledge and skills Must have technical skills :

 Mastering Linux operating system (RedHat 6/7) and working knowledge of Windows Server

 Affinity with development technologies, mandatory Java EE, nice to have PHP/Drupal/ColdFusion

 Proven experience in setting up Development platforms (Java EE/Drupal/ColdFusion)

o Required: Ant, Maven, Git, Jenkins/Bamboo, Nexus/Artifactory, Sonarqube

 Scripting capabilities: Ansible, Bash, Python, SQL, APIs usage

 Knowledge of Oracle ecosystem (Weblogic, Oracle database) and Tomcat, does not need to be an expert but needs to know the basics

 Helicopter view of a complex IT system, architecture skills

Education

Bachelor’s level or 3 years of higher education or an equivalent number of years of IT

professional experience as stated in the DIGIT-TM – Service Requirements.

Experience

• Minimum 9 years of IT professional experience

Experience in :

• Setup of development workflows
• Setup of continuous deployment mechanisms.
• Deployment job configurations
• Designing deployment solutions

Personal skills

• Ability to work in a team
• Ability to analyse complex documents
• Ability to follow and interpret Internal procedures and standards
• Ability to work with imposed deadlines
• Ability to work independently on specific tasks while at the same time
• functioning as a member of a team.
• Fluent in English and/or French
