Due to continued growth, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Communication Systems & Technologies Engineer to join our team in the Netherlands. The successful candidate will provide critical support to the European Space Agency projects and programs, focusing on space system security engineering, particularly in the space segment. This role involves designing and implementing system security measures, analysing vulnerabilities, and recommending mitigations to ensure the safety and resilience of space systems.
Main Responsibilities
As a Communication Systems & Technologies Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
- System Security Design: Contribute to the definition, analysis, and consolidation of space system security requirements.
- Reference Architecture Development: Define security reference architectures for space systems.
- Lifecycle Support: Support system reviews across project lifecycles, focusing on security aspects.
- Vulnerability Analysis: Analyse vulnerabilities, assess their impacts, and recommend suitable security mitigations and countermeasures.
- Evidence Assessment: Review and analyse evidence of fixes for identified vulnerabilities.
- Waiver/Deviation Assessment: Evaluate Requests for Waivers or Deviations on security aspects and provide recommendations.
- Audits and Testing: Organize and analyse results of security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing activities for ESA projects and programs.
- Innovative Solutions: Propose developments and enhancements to improve the security of space systems.
- R&D Support: Assist the ESA Technical Officer in Research and Development activities related to space system security, including writing Statements of Work, evaluating industry proposals, and supporting implementation.
- Operational Support: Provide assistance to Project/System Security Officers (PSSO) or Security Officers (SO) and support laboratory activities as required.
- Additional Tasks: Undertake other duties within the scope of the role as needed.
Successful Candidate

- Educational Background: Master’s or Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, preferably in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Telecommunications, or Aerospace.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge and experience in security engineering.
- Familiarity with space systems and ground segment architecture.
- In-depth understanding of space segment architecture and spacecraft avionics.
- Security Practices:
- Expertise in security best practices.
- Basic knowledge of applied cryptography.
- Understanding of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS).
- Standards and Protocols:
- Knowledge of CCSDS protocols and standards.
- RF security knowledge is considered a plus.
- Eligibility: Must be eligible for security clearance from an EU Member State.
