Serco Maritime Services currently provides services to the Belgian and the Dutch Navy maintaining and repairing mine sweepers (11).  Serco Maritime Services cares for all aspects of vessel maintenance: such as repair and maintenance of engines, electrical systems and electronics, hull, interior joinery and mechanical components.  Serco employees approximately 150 people in Zeebrugge, Belgium to provide these services. Serco Maritime Systems also operates contracts with Belgian Customs at the port of Antwerp and Zeebrugge. The headquarter is based in Oostende.

Business Unit Manager, Serco Maritime Services

Main Responsibilities

As Business Unit Manager you will be integrating Serco Maritime Services Business Unit and will report in first instance to the General Manager of the BU.  You will be closely supported by a Senior project manager and two assistant project managers.

Business Unit Manager’s key responsibilities:

  • During the integration period
    • Learn the business in depth: services, processes, the stake holders
    • Get to know the teams and the customers
    • Run eventual improvement projects
    • Participate to the ISO 9001 project

In order, after this integration period, to take over the business Unit and be responsible for:

  • Business
    • Set the strategy and goals for Serco Maritime Services
    • Define organisation and processes that delivers expected results
    • Develops customer relationship
    • Contractual performance reporting
    • Business Development:
      • Seeks and develop opportunities
      • Deliver proposals to current and new customers for developing the business (Organic Growth)
      • Supervises the execution of projects
  • Human Resources
    • Communicates strategy and goals, company information’s
    • Ensures people motivation, sense of ownership and adherence to the company culture
    • Identifies, hires and develops potentials
    • Sets training & development policy
    • Manages Safety rules and ensure results
    • Generates and manage changes
  • Financials
    • Ensures budget preparation and follow-up
    • Responsibility for P&L
    • Prepares Business Reviews

Successful Candidate

The successful candidate for this role is an entrepreneurial leader, someone who enjoys developing new customer relationships and equally loves working with their team to improve operational excellence.  We are looking for an ambitious and energic leader with a high focus on excellent Service Delivery, with a strong technical background, if possible, in the maritime industry and naval vessel maintenance.

Industrial or Civil Engineer (electrical and/or mechanical), or Marine Engineer with experience of 5+ years in service delivery and people management.

  • Enhanced Leadership skills: dynamic capability in managing, coaching and training the team
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commercial & entrepreneurial skills
  • "Hands-on Leader / Doer"; results driven
  • An experience with ship maintenance and/or Defence is a great asset
  • Open to digital technologies
  • Trilingual NL / FR / EN
  • Office suite
