We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Application Developer based in Ispra.

Role Responsibility

Description of tasks:

The consultant will be expected to contribute to all the tasks listed below:
Work in the  project team
A  good  interaction  and  cooperation  with  the  JRC    team  (scientific 
and technical) is imperative.

Development work
The consultant is expected to contribute to some or all of the following tasks according to the needs of the project:

  • Ensure that the modelling platform (both GUI and engine) is correctly maintained (bug fixing)
  • Develop and integrate new functionalities as requested by team demographers
  • Data  ETL:  for  demography  related  datasets.  a)  Data  collection  though dedicated  services/APIs,  or  generic  web  repositories;  b)  data manipulation, to  adapt the data types and information.  c)  data  ingestion, into structured or unstructured database. 
  • Routine  Processes:  Automatic  tools  to  routinely  perform  the  above described  ETL  activities  once  defined  will  be  developed  in  order  to allow researchers to work on the latest available data.
  • Creation  and  maintenance  of  documentation:  Writing  documentation related to the developments above using standard tools.

Successful Candidate

Knowledge and skills:

General IT experience in developing web applications:

  • Good  knowledge  of  application  development  environments:  Visual Studio Code; NodeJS
  • Good  knowledge  of  programming  and  scripting  languages:  C++,  R, Python,  Shell  scripting,  Javascript,  Typescript,  SQL,  Mongo  shell (optional)
  • Experience with databases (preferable MongoDB), at programming level.
  • Web technologies: JSON, REST, XHTML
  • Knowledge of data formats: XML, XSD, CSV, XLS, JSON 
  • Very good knowledge on Linux servers and workstation
  • Knowledge of version control systems: Git
  • Knowledge of JIRA or other bug tracking software
  • Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) software

Specific expertise

  • C++ development: 8 years
  • Visual Studio: 2 years

General skills

  • Good  oral  and  written  knowledge  of  English  is  indispensable  to communicate with JRC research staff
  • Report drafting skills
