Application Architect for e-Experts Management System (21640, min 13 years experience)

We are hiring a Application Architect for e-Experts Management System for our prestigious partner DIGIT TM (DG Informatics) in Brussels. DIGIT-TM is a contract from the European Commission for IT services across Europe.

Role Responsibility

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

The person who will fill in the position will need to work inside an agile team composed of
different profiles and with other development teams and business users. The main related
tasks for this position are the following:
 Data architecture (integrated in the business, application and infrastructure architecture) and analysis.
 Database design, modelling, implementation and testing.
 Development and maintenance of database scripts and stored procedures.
 Database integration with applications.
 Review delivered DB scripts from dev teams.
 Define and validate compliance with DB standards/rules.
 Review, redesign and migration of existing databases.
 Database configuration and optimisation.
 Support to the deployment and configuration of the database and of the application.
 Documentation of the analysis and implementation.
 Participation in meetings with development teams.
 Supporting the resolution of production issues.
 Support in feasibility/impact/risk analysis, estimations and the evaluation of new components impacting the database.
 Participation in technical working groups, progress meetings and meetings with the users.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS / WORK PLACE
The tasks shall be performed on the Commission premises in Brussels.
The infrastructure will be provided by the Commission.
Subject to the agreement of the Commission, the service provider might be authorised to
perform the tasks remotely (teleworking) up to 2 days per week in close vicinity to the
Commission premises in Brussels.
The line manager will assess whether the service provider is at a distance compatible with the
tasks, based on the needs of the service.
The PPW service provider is essential for the onsite resolution of the problems (including
maintenance of servers in case of network outages), hands on mentoring of newcomers, close
collaboration with the business stakeholders and governance bodies and ensuring business
continuity.
 

Successful Candidate

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
 In-depth knowledge of Oracle RDBMS and SQL.
 Extensive experience in relational database design and implementation.
 Good knowledge of stored procedure languages.
 Good knowledge and experience in the design and development of web and multi-tier web applications, and most specifically the database schemas supporting them.
 Knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture is an asset.
 Knowledge of change management tools (JIRA) is an asset.
 Knowledge of JEE is an asset.
 Knowledge of interoperability technology (e.g. web services, message oriented middleware, service oriented bus).
 Experience in agile development.
 Ability to apply high quality standards.
 Ability to actively participate in meetings in English.
 Good reporting, presentation and communication skills.
 Capability of integration in a multi-cultural environment, rapid self-starter.
 Autonomous and team player.
