We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Application Architect, based in Brussels.

 

Main Responsibilities

The key person will be responsible for:

  • Architecture and design of information systems: analysis of the current architecture and elaboration of the new based on the new principles

  • Design and development of architecture components and building blocks

  • Analysis of the integration of different existing information systems and the elaboration of new patterns of information and data exchange

  • Development of integrations between systems

  • Coordination of the implementation of the technical architecture: the technical infrastructure for the new systems will be different from the current one. The new architecture will have an impact on it – this impact needs to be defined, agreed and implemented.

  • Production of software architecture (and other necessary) documents

  • Participation in technical working groups, progress meetings and meetings with the users

  • Definition of testing needs and assistance in the testing

  • Assistance during relevant parts of testing, analysis, technical documentation, deployment, evaluation and reporting On the more technical level:

  • Participation to the installation, configuration and tuning of tools and platforms required for the "Compass Corporate" microservices based infrastructure. These include: Kibana, Zipkin, Hashicorp Vault, Kafka, Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Search, Zookeeper, Jira, Flyway, Bamboo.

  • Participation to the configuration of Docker container platforms such as Openshift/Kubernetes.

  • Participation to the configuration of automated deployment of new versions of applications

  • Integration with CI/CD systems and execution of Bamboo plans.

  • Diagnosis of software problems, coordination with the development teams and support teams. Working very closely with senior developers and architects.

  • Developing tools (using scripting languages) for the automation of processes, the monitoring of performance and availability of applications and for the pro-active detection of problems

  • Documentation of operational procedures and compilation of guidelines and "best practice" regarding the delivery of applications for deployment.

Successful Candidate

The key person should have:

  • Good knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture

  • Very good knowledge of applications design

  • Very good knowledge of Relational DBMS

  • Knowledge of interoperability technology (e.g. web services, message oriented middleware, service oriented bus)

  • Good redaction skills

  • Ability to apply high quality standards

  • Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings, good communication skills Capability of integration in an international/multi-cultural environment Fluent in English, knowledge of French is an asset

  • Knowledge of DG EAC programmes, Grant Management or Commission systems is an advantage

 Specific expertise:

  • SOA architecture principles

  • Knowledge and professional experience with Angular2+ based architectures patterns

  • Very good knowledge and professional experience of Oracle 11g or later, Web Logic 11 or later, Apache Tomcat, Web Services, Java EE and JMS

  • Knowledge of Git, Confluence and SVN, development setup in a cloud

  • Micro-service development techniques

  • Good knowledge of English (spoken, written)
