Sentinels Data Hub Operations Engineer

Role Responsibility

The candidate will be part of the Sentinels Data Hub Operations Team, and will be involved in the Operational activities for monitoring and maintaining the Sentinels Rolling Archive data dissemination Service.

Activities involve on-call service out of nominal working hours (for a 365/7 coverage).
The service provides Sentinel­1, Sentinel­2, Sentinel­3 and Sentinel­5P products to end users according to the levels of service agreed with the European Space Agency.

Main tasks are:

  • Support to testing and verification activities
  • Execution of regular maintenance activities
  • Support to configuration control and support to the definition of the network interfaces
  • Execution of Transfer to Operations of service applications (e.g. DHuS)
  • Real­time monitoring and control of the end­to­end product publication chains
  • Management of service incidents and anomalies
  • Generation and maintenance of Operational Procedures
  • Linux Shell scripting for operational incidents management
  • Interfacing with other groups (software development teams, PDGS teams, Copernicus SCI team, Network and Security team)
  • Support to the update of the web contents (e.g. userguides, news publication, service web portals)
  • Third line help desk technical support
  • Extraction of service statistics and generation of weekly, monthly and quarterly Operational Reports and Service Performance Reports
  • IT Service Infrastructure housekeeping

Successful Candidate

For this position the ideal candidate will have:

  • Good knowledge in Linux Operating Systems (e.g. RedHat)
  • Good Knowledge of Linux shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of Apache.
  • Knowledge of Database Management Systems (e.g. MySQL, Postgres).
  • Experience in system administration.
  • Knowledge of Earth Observation satellite data.
  • Knowledge of Copernicus Data Access Project.
  • Ability to work in a team and to share and acquire knowledge
  • Pro­active problem solving attitude
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Good knowledge of French (written and spoken) is an asset

Preference will be given to employees within "Categoria Protetta (Law 68/99)"
