For our activities in ESTEC (Noordwijk),we are looking for an Opto-Electronics Engineer.

 

Role Responsibility

  • Support of Sentinel-4 at 40% level and upcoming Sentinel-7 (Carbonsat-type mission), Sentinel-8 (Thermal IR mission) and Sentinel-10 (Hyperspectral mission) Phase A/B1 studies (planned parallel studies in each case);
  • Running of detector technology development activities “Large Format SWIR detector” and a number of detector pre-development activities funded by EOEP;
  • Support to technology developments in the field of quantum key distribution;
  • Support to technology development contracts and performance of in-house design work. In particular, assist in the establishment of requirements and configurations for payload equipment and sub-systems involving: 
  • Solid state lasers;
  • Fibre-optic components;
  • Detectors and focal plane instrumentation;
  • Quantum-electronic devices and systems, including optical atomic clocks;
  • Superconducting devices and sensors;
  • Review and evaluation of technical documentation and design dossiers;
  • Perform analysis and elaborate outline design and configurations;
  • Assist, where appropriate, external and internal testing, verification and evaluation of optoelectronic systems and components, including ground and airborne measurement campaigns;
  • Contribute to the definition, maintenance and use of design, engineering and verification ;
  • Software tools for photonic systems and components.

And/or

  • Assist in the calibration of the optical test set-up to allow quantitative laser damage tests;
  • Operate the Laser Induced Damage test set-up during test sequences;
  • Prepare test samples;
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of the test data.

Successful Candidate

  • The candidate should have a PhD or MSc Engineering in Photonics or Optics from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent;
  • Should have minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Should have a background in detector and quantum technologies;
  • Experience in the design, development and testing of Opto-electronic systems and components;
  • Good system experience in the use and application of fibre-optic components and sensors in spacecraft engineering;
  • Experience with high-power pulsed laser systems, complex optical set-ups and vacuum systems.
