Operational IT Maintenance Team Leader

For our activities in the European Space Agency, we are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic Maintenance Team Leader to work in an exciting innovative international environment

The role will be part of a newly established Network Operations Centre (NOC) tasked with coordinating, configuring and monitoring activities related to the ESA ground segment, specifically the Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) stations of the ESTRACK ground station network.

The NOC is responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support to the ESA space missions and its users.

It provides Ground Operations, Operational IT and Operational Control Centre services and acts as single point of contact for real-time service requests from ESTRACK customers.

The hardware maintenance team looks after the operational IT hardware, the local data centres and wiring centres as well as the operational control rooms on site.

Role Responsibility

The main tasks of the Maintenance team leader will be:

·         Lead the Operational IT/control room maintenance team;

·         Supervise and coordinate the activities of the team:

o    Hardware installations;

o    Hardware maintenance and support;

o    Mechanical integration;

o    Electrical safety testing;

o    Cable installation, testing and patching;

o    Spare part management;

o    Shipping and handling of equipment deliveries;

o    Configuration management;

o    Testing;

o    Preventive maintenance;

o    Control room refurbishment.

·         Maintain procedures and documentation;

·         Reporting;

·         Incident handling;

·         Support of LEOP (launch and early orbit) activities (including occasional shift work);

·         Support the management of the operational services;

·         Providing training for junior team members;

·         Act as an interface to the customer;

·         Project management for refurbishment project/engineering activities.

Successful Candidate

Applicants need to have a solid background in IT/operational support and experience in leading a support team in a critical 24/7 environment.

Experience in a spacecraft operations/ground station environment is a plus.

You will possess the following qualities:

  • Solid experience with project management, Prince2 or PMP certification preferred;
  • Excellent knowledge of common data centre infrastructures, including wiring concepts, cooling and power distribution;
  • Fluent in English, both in speech and writing;
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with little or no supervision;
  • Pro-active and confident personality with good persuasive skills;
  • Team-player, able to interface with technical and management personnel;
  • Well-organised, able to prioritise and manage several tasks in parallel;
  • Able to work on shifts occasionally;
  • Solid IT knowledge, including common hardware, networking concepts and common tools and software applications;
  • Service mentality and solid understanding of a KPI driven service environment;
  • Able to write and present documentation, procedures and training material/presentations;
  • Experience in coordination and supervision of teams;
  • PC literacy: MS Office Products, Lotus Notes.
